Style: What Influences You? Any advice for me?
I want to update my look. I've started going to a salon and got my eye brows waxed. I thought about going to a style consultant, but I live in Jacksonville, FL and its a city, but a novice city at best and wouldn't know where to find one.
I am a guy, 5' 9" at 130 pounds here's a model of what I look like. go here to make a virtual model of yourself I'm skinny. I wear sort of baggy clothes which I should stop doing because I've heard that it makes a person look skinnyer. Any advice? I've heard about tall skinney people wearing horizontal lines to make them look broader. So where do you get your facsion inspiration. I like to do my own thing, but I'm always open to new ideas. I got an idea from an Italian Maxim once. black dress pants with a white oxford shirt with rolled up sleaves. Stubbled face. |
When in doubt, ask women (who know how to dress). Asking women for fashion advice is very interesting; you'll get into some good conversations. You'll also get a variety of advice, some bad, but average it out.
Don't ask your mom, but even sisters can give good advice. Yeah, I get my advice from my wife; she's a former seamstress with a good eye for color and design, and knows what kind of clothes hang best on me. |
Lordy you're tiny! Well, if you have a girlfriend, a sister, girl friends (different from a girlfriend ;)) you can always go shopping with them.
Buy things that fit. You're right, baggy clothes on you will make you look like youre swimming in them. Buy clothes that fit. Not super tight jeans, but not baggy either. As for stores... I guess I like guys that dress a bit preppy casual or whatever. Gap, JCrew, American Eagle, Structure, stores like that. You could always look online, see the styles. As for the eyebrow waxing.... Go easy on that. Its great to keep them up and all, but you dont want to look too groomed :) |
I dress in sports apparell pretty much all of the time
|
You could not pay me to shop at places like Gap, or Old Navy, or American Eagle! Ugh.
Yeah, let me pay out the ass to look like a cookie cutter version of every preppy, yuppie wanna be. No thanks. (no offense to those of you who may shop at the gap, it's just not my thing) My advice: Go shopping. By yourself. Get what's comfortable, and what you like. Think about what you want your new image to be BEFORE you go out. |
Avertt, I'm not too tiny! ;)
http://nothing.morbidmortal.com/pics/them/candyman.jpg As for style, I say steal from the best and find for own path for the rest. Keep those eyes open. |
I buy and wear nothing name brand, always clothes that fit, and I generaly even tuck the shirt in. I think it just looks better. Plus Ive heard it makes the shoulders look broader.

Damn, i hate all this stuff. Although, my sister went shopping with me the other day and she loves doing all this fashion and accesorising stuff, so that made it easy for me. Girls seem to love dressing things up like that, and i felt like a ken doll for the day :p :)
I don't like wearing too many logo shirts nowadays, just plainer stuff and colours. Most of that logo and icon stuff is for when you're a teenager in highschool, i think? Although it'd be cool to make some of my own shirts some times, with some kind of quirky message thing on there, which i find funny or amusing. Although no one else would, but that doens't bother me. Don't mean to be too rude, but that virtual model thing is fucking hilarious though. I made my own and had a bit of a laugh :D this is me, evidentally  ME! |
I tried for about an hour and I could never make the fuckin' thing look like me.
That's creepy to me. |
Go goth
|
I think you should wear the kind of clothing you're comfortable in. If you want to change, go for a style you like. Why does it matter if you're 'skinny'? Why not flaunt it??
|
First think about what you want. Do you wanna look nice and attract people or do you want something comfortable that you can wear and not look like a complete slob. If you want to look nice and stylish go to places like the Gap or Sears and buy brand name things like tommy hilfiguer jeans and sweaters. You may not notice much of a difference between the expensive designer sweaters and regular stuff you usually buy but girls that know clothing will. :) have fun.

When you're talking about stylish...then don't go for bold patterns.
Men work better with solids and subtle patterns. Let the cut be the style, and the color set your mood. Also they are easier to mix and match. You look more like an Autumn, if you real picture is accurate. This means you want "warmer" colors. (Think of the colors of the forest) I suggest a book called "Color for Men" this is excellent for getting a sense of what goes with your "type" My facial feature are different than yours...I go more "cooler" colors. When I was younger and had hair (Highlighted Brown, Long & Curly)...I was a "Summer" (softer colors...pastels) Now with me being bald, and a more stark look...I'm a Winter...but still cool. (darker...more moody) For those of you who are wonder what Spring would be, These are bold colors, like the rainbow. |
