How to better entertain house guests?
 

How do you make sure your guests are entertained and not quickly bored when they come over?

bordering on setting up activities, let it come naturally.

discuss what they want to do, place cards? play xbox? play board games? just sit and chat? watch a DVD?

let it happen, that way you also don't feel so bad if they don't want to do what you think they want or should be doing.

Nudity.

I just let them do what ever the hell they want to, just as long as its not wreckless or cause the neighbors to complain. And then when i come to their house.....PAY BACK!! muahahahahahaahaha

It totally depends on the people. Most of my friends are movie geeks, so movie night always goes over well.

Depends on the guests... I always enjoyed it the most sitting around the kitchen table, kicking back with a cocktail, shooting the shit.

Usually we just watch a movie, drink, and shoot the shit as well

some games, like Taboo, are fun no matter how old you are.

Yeah, movies are good. Talking is excellent if you haven't seen them awhile. Playing some games is good if it involves everyone.

prior to having house guests, find out what they like to do- card games, board games, movies, chat, drink, and then go from there!

play a game, like cards, or rummikub (very fun tile game)

i insist they play candyland with me :D

listen to music

show them around my room

playing dr. mario

boardgames...

Um... entertain?

Oh yeah, talk about the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the trends of the GDP of Malaysia and its implications for the Asian export/import markets.

Or just watch movies, listen to CDs and records, play NES and SNES, play guitar, and whatever else comes up.

if you want to promote discussion, I wouldn't recommend movies... and I'm not the kind of person to be very talkative when there's music playing.

Have a stocked bar, or .. ask people to bring different types of alcohol and have a good time mixing cocktails. I like just sitting around, talking .. as many people have already said.. and group games are always fun. Cranium, Trival Pursuit .. or even a good old fashioned drinking game.

Usually, if there is alcohol, people are pretty happy to just sit and talk (i've noticed ;)).

The last few times I've entertained in my room, we just sat on my bed and talked while listening to some tunes.

It seems to me like it wouldn't hurt to ask and see what your company would like to do.

Depends on the crowd I would say (not that I'm such a great host or anything...). If its a bunch of the guys coming over, have beer at the ready along with some cards/video games/tunes. Mixed company, drinks/snacks and perhaps some interesting games...
