Vitamins!
Since Ive started college Ive been sick on and off for pretty mucht the entire semester. Nothin serious, but not fun.
I asked my cousin why he was never sick... His answer? Vitamins daily. I tried it. I havnt been sick since. How many of you take a daily multi-vitamin? |
I used to drink lots that was when i didn't get sick at all...
now i don't take any vitamins but i normally don't have any coughs or colds. this year i was sick a couple of times but not with a cold or a cough but from something much more severe which vitamins wouldn't have helped. |
Hmm.. not me, but I know I should..
Thanks for the heads up! |
Dude, I was just telling Cyn in chat to take this stuff: LINK My grandma takes that stuff when she feels a cold coming on and she hasn't been sick in over 50 years. I started taking it a few months ago when she told me about it and I haven't been sick at all since then. I also take a multi-vitamin everyday, as well as Ester-C (really good vitamin C), a vitamin B complex, and powdered vitamin C mixed with water (it gets through your system faster and works better than vitamin C capsuls).
Go to that above link and shop their store. It's got a lot of really good prices, and Grammy says their store brand is as good as the brand names. She owned her own health food store for years, has a degree in nutrition and, like I said, hasn't been sick in over 50 years, and she's 82 now. |
I eat healthy, balanced meals (certainly not a health nut, and certainly not the only type of meals I eat) - and lots of apples (I love 'em). I rarely get sick, once a year on average -- sometimes more, if it's extreme circumstances (ie: my girlfriend is sick and that doesn't stop me from making out with her).
I'm a bit iffy on vitamins, but I try to get all of the recommended daily vitamins in my meals anyways, so I figure I'm safe. If you don't think you can manage that, though, vitamins are always good. |
I don't take any. I prefer eating healty food..
|
I can't stand most vitamins. They're like horse pills and I can't swallow 'em. Or they taste like crap.
I take 500 mg of vitamin C on most days, in a nice orangey flavored chewable. |
Yeah! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I never believed in taking any pills... but my blood doctor said I should take a multi-vitamin like Centrum A-Z because of this weird blood thing I have that "They ain't identified yet."
One of the pleasant side affects is that while everyone I know succumbs to the flu or bronchitis, I've been scott free. I eat pretty poor food so I don't think I get it in my normal food. This should work well for college students for sure :D quadro2000, I remember taking flinstones multivitamins (chewable) when I was a kid... damn those things were tastey! |
A friend of mine worked at a sewage treatment plant. They have to routinely clear the vitamins out of the filters. Usually they are still whole and sometimes you can even read the labels on them.

I take a cheap multi-vitamin daily, I think it's helped me feel better physically, so in turn helped me out mentally. I'd recommend it to anyone who feels they may not get their vitimans in their food. |
I take a vitamin and mineral tablet daily for the simple reason that I do not eat a balanced diet.
In an ideal world your diet should be good so you wouldn't need to take them but there we are. Oh yes and a cod liver oil tablet as well for supple joints. |
I take some C and E whenever I remember, but that's it
|
You are what you eat! I’m a firm believer in that statement. Eating healthy, not just fruits an veggies but organic foods with natural supplements have kept me healthy for many years now.
I don’t use your basic everyday multi-vitamin only cuz your body digests about 5% of it. If you take notice your urine is bright yellow/orange after taking one of these. That’s the other 95% of it. Something to do with the processing, your body does not recognize the properties and discards them as waist. I use a lot of omega fatty acids, plant fiber, antioxidants, blue-green algae and plenty of water. I get them from a company in the North West. There are about 30 different types to choose from according to your life style. If you want the link let me know. |

I take a multi-vitamin, an iron suppliment, vitamin B100, vitamin C, and an energy suppliment with ginseng, bee pollen and wheat grass in it. Also take echinacea when I feel like I'm getting sick. |
I take an effervescent multivitamin every day, but only because I don't eat too well (I can never be bothered making proper meals, so it's usually 2-minute noodles!).
Once a month I take evening primrose oil capsules and if I've been drinking, I'll have some B vitamins before I go to bed so I don't get hungover. |
I started taking a multi-vitamin pill and a vitamin-C pill because of my going on the Atkins diet.
I keep forgetting the damn things, though. :p Quote:
I imagine they would be even more tasty! ;) Quote:
Do they really help your joints? |
I usually eat a pretty balanced meal myself. As far as the pills in the sewers... I gotta imagine that thats due to a body that doesnt need the nutrients, because its already got em. SO it never breaks the thing down.
And taking pills has never been a big deal to me. We used to go camping a lot when I was little, and because you dont eat as well camping - we used to do a 60 mile canoe trip through the adirondacks, you pack light - I had to learn to take vitmins. Hasnt been a problem since. |
I started taking supplements when I went on the Atkins diet about two months ago. A good, complete multi, plus an essential oil capsule.
|
I don't take anything and I only get like one cold or flu every two to three years.
|
I take a multi V every day. In my line of work, you can't always get a balanced meal. I have been taking them for over 20 years and for the most part, don't get colds or the flu. But every once and a while, I will get minor sniffles, but i think it is really draining sinuses. Sice i have been taking them every morning for so long, it is just part of the routine.
|
I take a daily and a b-12 complex. helps keep me shiny.
|
one regular Centrum everyday.
nothing else does it for me as well. Generic sucks. And other brands are not the balance that works for me. so by now...it's a no brainer. |
Never took anything. Then I met this kookie chick who convinced me to take them. Selenium,CoQ10, and something else and it made me crazy. Felt like my skin was crawling with bugs.
Didn't sleep and was psychotic.Surprised I didn't kill anyone.Went to the doctor cuz my diabetic uncle gave me piss strips to pee on.They turned black.Normal is blue. Was drinking a glass of water every minute.Couldn't eat and lost 20 pounds in one month. Stop taking that shit and am back to normal although the 3 week withdrawal wasn't fun.Couldn't stay awake, constipated and headaches. Will never touch a vitamin again. |
I take a daily multi in the morning, L-glutamine (its not a vitamin, but its an amino acid that affects your immune system) after workout and before bed, and vitamin C after my workout. I don't remember the last time I was sick... seriously been years :).
|
I hear that some multi-vitamins aren't absorbed well into the bloodstream and just go through your system. Has anyone heard of this and if so know of any brands that don't have this problem?

I don't take anything, but I know I should be taking a multi-vitamin. Helps everyone, even those people you feel they are eating a well-balanced diet.
|
I try to eat and sleep right. I also take DualTabs by Twinlab. They have everything and also time released with buffer to aid absorption.
|
I just take a Men's multi-vitamin every morning with breakfast. I rarely get sick either. I get a cold on occassion, but nothing worse than a bit of a runny nose.
|
My Dr has prescribed a Prenatal Multivitamin since they are higher in Iron and have Iodine and vitamins that help with the absorbtion of Iron. I have trouble with anemia with no known reason. Just don't absorb it well. It's just a one a day. I've noticed a real difference since I started taking it and my Hemoglobin count has improved to within the normal range.
Recently found I can't tolerate Echinacea. I am allergic to Daisies such that my eyes and face swell up visibly when I handle them. Took some Echinacea last week and noticed a mild anaphlactic reaction. NOT good. Not taking those again. Echinacea is from the Blue Corn Flower which is related to the Daisy. |
i take a mutli vitamin daily too... i dont know if it actually helps increase strength but i definitely feel better/stronger then i did when not taking it (placebo affect too maybe?)

I'm curious if anyone who has a rather wimpy stomach like mine to vitamins? I try to take a multivitamin but it often upsets my stomach like mad when I do. Anyone tried any that seem more gentle on your stomach?

Yes I usually take mine with food but I had hopes someone had discovered a more gentle one...perhaps not. :(
