Let's talk about Urine!! Yeay!!
Alright, I'm definitely not as enthusiastic as this subject line led y'all to believe. My question is this: I just started taking a multivitamin daily, along with glutamine in my otherwise normal rotation of weight gainer and protein shakes. I drink plenty of water, so I'm used to a nice, *colorless* stream when I relieve myself. Since I picked up the multivitamin and glutamine, it is bright yellow. We're talking NEON. We're talking I need sunglasses everytime I take a piss! Okay, maybe not the last two, but you get my point. Any ideas? I'm feeling great otherwise!

Isn't that cool? Yeah, I remember my roommate once got a jar of mega-ultra-multi-vitamins, and they turned piss neon yellow. I don't know what component did that, however.
Got the same effect from a dye test done on my cornea; the technician told me to use a black light the next time I pissed, but I didn't have one. |
That is a byproduct of getting more then enough vitamin B2 in your diet. Nothing harmful, its just what it looks like when your body is getting rid of the stuff it doesnt need. Later in the day (with your heavy water consumption) your pee will start becoming more clear again :)

Plan9 essentially has it. I don't know if its specifically B2 (but he seems so, so I'd trust him) but any of the water soluble vitamins (everything except A,D,E, and K i think) that you get to much of are going to just be dumped by your kidneys as extra and you'll piss them out, hence colored pee cause there's more stuff in there.

Ahh I just took a sec to look up Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) in my Lexi-Comps Drug Information Handbook...direct quote:
"large doses may cause bright yellow or orange urine" So Plan9 is correct... |
Haha, excellent! Thanks for the info.
...runs off to install a blacklight in his bathroom... |

are there any vitamins that will make it a really weird/ unnatural color... like green... or blue...
|
There are some drugs that can cause blue, green, or even blackish urine...or if you can get your hands on some methylene blue, i think it's an occasional food coloring but not to often because it can turn your urine blueish green. I've heard of it being used in pranks but I don't know if its good for you or not...

Some foods will cause color change, too. Eat a lot of asparagus and see what happens, literally. Also affects the smell in a really obvious way.
|
Eating beets will turn your pee pinkish.
|
Antibiotics for bladder infection turn urine bright red. Try to get one- an infection, not a pill.
|
Multivitamins are great at turning your pee all sorts of colours as your body gets rid of the excess. So no need to worry. Makes it a bit more difficult to judge hydration though.

A friend of mine gave me this liquid stuff (I can't remember the name of it to save me) that cleans out the bad toxins in your body. Not only did my pee turn neon green, but damn did it smell bad.
I think I even saw squiggly stink lines coming off it. |
