Metabolic rate to slow down when I hit 25?
I'm 24 now and heard that my metobolic rate will begin to slow down when I turn 25. I'm a skinny guy who has very fast metabolism. Whatever I eat, I burn it right away. So when I turn 25 I'll start becoming a fat ass?

My metabolism was slow when I didn't exercise and now it is pretty fast since I watch my diet and exercise almost daily (30 minutes of cardio 5-6 days a week) and weightlifting 3 days a week (arms, legs, etc.). I had pretty much packed on the weight over a 10 year period and have lost it all and then some in 4 months. I drop 2-3 lbs a week and am down 45 lbs so far (20 to go).

I noticed a slgith decrease in metabolism in the past 2 years (I'm 29). Everyone changes at a different time and rate. I just took care to watch that I didn't engorge myself. I ate when I was hungry and only when I was hungry. I stopped eating when I didn't feel hungry instead of eating one more piece of pie because it was so good. I also tried to cut out sweets some (I really have a sweet tooth) and that alone made a good difference. Yes you slow down just a little but usually just better excercise, activity, and a reasonably healthy diet is sufficient to ward of the pudginess. Don't obsess or worry and that will help. just be sensible.

I know mine has slown down (I'm 25) and it's a good thing. I was skinny for the longest time, and it was nearly impossible for me to pack on muscle despite plenty of weight training. Now that my metabolism is no longer running at light speed, I have filled in nicely.
So your metabolism may very well slow soon, and that doesn't have to be a bad thing. If/when it happens you will of course want to adjust your diet/exercise accordingly. |
