Affordable Alaska Outing?
I'm considering sending my dad to Alaska for a week (or 3-5 days, depending on cost) for his birthday. He's always wanted to visit there but hasn't had a chance to yet, and I think he's due for a vacation.
I'v eseen some advertised "flight-seeing" tours that sounds like they would be pretty neat (my dad is a former Cessna pilot, so he appreciates small planes). Anyone have any other ideas for activities, or a good package deal that will give him some options but give him some time to relax?

If he enjoys wildlife, a friend of mine recently went there on a second honeymoon and really enjoyed a whale watching boatride. I also understand the aleutian(sp?) islands are beautiful, full of wildlife, and, for the most part, have recovered quite nicely from the Valdez fiasco

Anways I'm actually from alaska, so those fly in things are really nice, but specifically in the summer. Right now its not as spectacular. If i were you i'd get him a ticket for june which is our nicest month, and set him up with a fly by of mount mckinley They fly your around the mountain and you get to take pictures and stuff, i think there are also several things to do in denali national park, like go see bears and such. Or you could send him to a fish camp. There are lots of flight services that will fly you out on a small cesna to some river where you can't get to by road, and set you up in a cabin, and every morning you get to go out and go fishing all day. Fish camps are expensive though, the flight seeing trip is rather nice, and somewhat in expensive. There are lots of sights in alaska, just around anchorage where i live you can climb any number of mountains thats fun, he'll find something if you just send him up tell him to go to the visitor center tourism is big business, and we'll find something for him to do that he'll love, and they'll love your money
