True Happiness.
 

Let me start off by saying this is only my opinion, and it is to be taken lightly. Take this with nothing more then what its worth.

To be truely happy, Ive recently discovered, it's nothing more then simple acceptance. To accept what you've been given, to realize what you don't have, and that you dont need it. From a day to day standpoint, money is important. But, money cannot be something you live for. That will ruin your well being. I'm not rich, and you know what, im happy that im not. Too many people seem to relate money to happiness. What because you can buy a nice car, a nice home theatre system, a nice house, etc.. Is that what makes people happy? I think if we would all just stop the materialistic battle, and accept and love what we DO have.

What is your perception of happiness?

To me, true happiness was achieved when my wife and I finally accepted each other totally and lived our life as the other was the most important thing. I also agree with your perspective on money. I've been lucky that I'm in a career that allows me to make a bit of money, but I'm not obsessed with it anymore.

I agree. Money doesn't buy happiness. In fact, it's even a poor substitution for it. Personally, I hate money due to all the evil it represents. It's just a neccesity to survive.

Money does not equal happiness at all.
Personal self fulfillment makes happiness.

For me, I feel fulfilled in that I am loved by another, and I too, love. I fight daily for what I believe in, and that makes me feel as if I have made a difference.
Happiness is what you make of it. If you think you are unhappy - that is what you are. Same applies if you think you are happy.

I think I'm happy, so now I am :D

Love leads to happiness. Nothing else. (IMO)

There is no true continuous happiness.
It is a fleeting thing.

Live for the moment.
Try for your goals, and finish some of them.
Don't be obsessive
Don't overwork.
Enjoy yourself.
Avoid assholes and idiots.

That's about as close as you'll get.
But Don't Worry, be Happy :)

I think that would definitely add to my true happiness. I miss the companionship of a real relationship. Sometimes a platonic one just isn't enough.

Happiness is what you make of it.


I'm not really sure what makes me truly happy. As of right now it's a roof over my head and a warm place to park my penis every once in a while.

i always liked that lyric. So if you're so happy that you start crying, i think that's true happiness.

Do you really want to know? The love of God, but I guess that makes me a minority on TFP.

Don't be so quick to judge us.

I'm sure there is a lot of people here that have faith in religon. We are a large group of people after all.

Find your Bliss, everything will follow.

But this is one of my favs.

They say money can't buy happiness. But it can buy all the things that make me happy.

It works for you, but probably doesn't work for some of us. That's the way life is. You've found your true happiness. The rest of us are still searching. That's the way life is. Peace to you. :)

There is no happiness without sorrow. They are two sides of the same coin.

Happiness is a state of mind... like every emotion and sensation. I'm not a psychologist, never even taken a lesson in high school (although I have more than enough run ins with psychologists and psychotherapists, I even have one for a neighbor) but I can tell you from my own personal experiences that it is merely a state of mind.
If you convince yourself that your a happy person and believe it you will be. If you believe other ppl when they tell you that you look good... you will feel good (about the way you look).
It's all in the mind. I believe some psychologists refer to it in part as positive affirmations or some psychobablebullshit like that.
Think happy - be happy.

Seriously though, I have no real concept of what happiness is. Its like true love. I'm pretty sure its out there, but have no idea what its going to take for me to find it.

money certainly affords me things that make me happy. although i am just as capable as being happy without it. i dont denounce money...i dont embrace. i accept that it buys a beautiful porshe and tasty lobster. those things make me happy. if they were cheap, they would still make me happy.

oh yeah, and happiness is my vols DESTROYING miami this weekend.

I used to think that money and a good job was the key to happiness. I recently have fallen in love with a girl. She makes me happier than any amount of money or materialistic things ever could. Now I see things in a whole new light. True happiness is being with people you love and they love you in the same way(whether its family, friends, or significant other).Its all about the love.

Happiness to me is really an attitude I create.goes right along with most of this thread....enjoy what you have, and dont expect life to hand you more. I find myself pleasantly suprised when it does.

Money can buy you everything that can be controlled. It can't buy you good luck, perfect health, or immortality, nor can it bring your loved ones back from their graves in the cold, hard earth. Short of that, there is little money can't provide you - up to and including happiness. However, it is almost impossible to find happiness without money.

Money is not evil - not even a representation of it or a focus for it. The central theme is desire, and the only thing that separates evil from practical is the cost. Whether the desire is for a person, a thing, or some feeling or intangible thing, it's what we are willing to pay for it that determines whether we are 'evil' or not.

I personally am happy when nothing is wrong, which means I am happy about every third day. About money, having it doesn't necessarily make me happy, but not having it for bills and such makes me unhappy.

I disagree, money CAN buy you health...Look at how alot of rich people and celebreties can get an MRI whenever they want and not wait in line like everyone else, plus they can afford the latest and best treatmets

I try to keep in mind a paraphrased Buddha quote:
"Desire is the root of all suffering"

Generally, I'm unhappy because I can't have something I want. If you can free yourself from that desire, you experience happiness.
Is it possible to have everything you want?
It's hard to say.

Yes, I noted that. This is why I word it 'perfect health.' Some people are simply blessed with impeccable health - never getting sick or injured, living well past normal life expectancy, and dying a natural death in their sleep. Regardless of how much money you have, you can't pay to never have tumors, chronic diseases, or severe injuries.

There are some things that money can't buy. For everything else ...
