Employment Issues ... TFP Help Needed!

Howdy folks.

I have just realized that i absolutely hate my job. im currently employed at discount tire co., and am getting less and less hours on account of the start of a slow season. i have no issues with this, however, i need money. I have had two jobs in the past, all having to do with manual labor. well i hate that. im starting a job search this week and was wondering if you all in the TFP could have any suggestions for me! like i said i hate manual labor but i could do paperwork or computer work until the cows come home. any suggestions would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks in advance,
Costello

wow umm.. i guess you dont have anything specific or want any schooling for it right now? well your best bet is to find a local job site or newspaper help wanted ads... suggesting careers wont help cause we dont know whats available around there and most things require training and experience

yeah. not really looking for something permanent. just a job to have while i go to college. not looking for a carreer type job, just one that isnt as physically intensive as my previous ones. thanks for your suggestion!

What are you studying in college? Many times there are internship types of things available that not only give you a leg up on your career but don't involve manual labor.

speech/communication studies at the moment. the internships there are few and far between, and i havent noticed any that actually pay you :/ . thanks though for the suggestion sky

Well that's if it is a listed internship. My advice would be to go on some boards related to this topic and ask for career advice. Post where you live. You never know where you can find someone that is needing office help and willing to pay for it. There are two benefits to this. You can get to see different facets of your chosen career that might give you ideas what you want to do with it specifically. Most jobs are found through networking rather than advertisements. I think the last numbers I saw showed that only 15% of jobs are found through ads or listed jobs. The more people in that field that know your predicament and your desire to move into a more meaningful job, the more likely you will be able to find work of this type.

thanks :). you happen to know of any of these boards?

Well, since you were kinda in the automotive field, but dont want a career job now, and cars dont sounds like your kinda career... You might want to look into something more like your local Pep Boys. Something kinda related to cars, since you have experience with them, it will help you get in. Its more customer service and retail oriented, and that kind of experience is always helpful for getting jobs in the future. Nobody looks down on someone who has experience and a good record with customer service.
