Jump rope vs jogging
I heard that 10 min of jumping rope was equivalent to 30 min of running. Is this true? If so, in what way? Are they talking about how much it works your heart or calories burned. I am trying to burn calories right now. It would seem that I would burn more calories running than standing still and jumping. I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

Because jumping rope is a high intensity workout whereas jogging is low intensity. jump rope for 20 mins a day and you will stay very trim :). Aside from doing HIIT 3 days a week, the other cardio days that I do are jump rope. I have a very nice leather rope with weighted handles.

It is much easier to move forward than straight up against gravity. Also, by swinging your arms together, you recruit a lot more torso muscle to keep yourself upright and the rope moving. When you swing your arms while running, you rotate around the spine, and the arms are coordinated to balance each other out. That being said, you might find that jump roping can put a lot of wear and tear on your body. You have to figure out if it works for you.

Good point popcon1. If you do decide that you enjoy jumping rope, I would invest in buying a rubber gym mat to do it on. Without it, your knees are going to be taking a beating.

They are both great workouts you should do both. I once heard a fitness trainer describe the jump rope as 'a curve ball for your body'. Its great to include it in your workout. A great advantage of the rope is you can do it no matter the weather. I find that it works my forearms out as much as my calves.

I fully rate them both for fitness but they train different muscles. Basically it depends on what you want and which you enjoy?
