How often do you change towels?
quick question
how often do you guys change your towels? my concern is that when you come out, you'll wipe ur crotch and ass with a part of the towel and the next morning, u could be using that part to dry your face off. lol now, of course i'm assuming u'll be clean but still....for this reason, i change mine every 2 days, sometimes daily. |
I use a new towel everytime I shower. It makes for huge water bills, but I couldn't think of using a towel twice for the reasons you stated.
I figure you are clean when you get out of the shower. So you're just wiping away water. I'll reuse towels for like two or three showers. My girlfriend uses new ones every time (one for body and one for hair).
Coupla times a week I guess
about 2 towels a week. let it air dry and there are no mold/mildew worries.
I change my towels every other day, cause your never know how clean you really are lol..
You're supposed to change them?
LOL. About once a week is all for me... :-) |
Use a seperate towel for face? That's what...i do.
I change towels once a week
Once or twice a week..

Prior to repainting my bathroom, I had a Dilbert strip hanging on the wall:
Wally: "I don't understand why some people wash their bath towels. When I get out of the shower I'm the cleanest object in the house. In theory, those towels should be getting cleaner every time they touch me." Alice: "Maybe I could hug you every day so I don't need to take showers." Wally: "Are towels supposed to bend?" I wash my towels once a week. It's a bit more eco and cash friendly, and yeah, I soap thoroughly. If you are worried about your ass being dirty, then scrub it! I don't worry about the soap, and I wouldn't want to keep going around with a dirty ass. |
I wash my towel once a week. I am not drying up into any dirty areas. If the outside of my body is dirty enough to communicate disease to myself when I step out of the shower, I'll step back in the shower.
I always figure I'm clean when I come out of the shower - so the towel's only wet, not dirty... :)
i use a two towel system, that is, i rotate two towels, using one one day, and the other the next... they seem to last longer.
I use a new towel every day for me.
About two towels a week because I think I do a pretty good job when I shower. When I lived with my girlfriend she changed them daily.
I look for a hand towel when I'm a guest especially after realizing one of my aquaintances used his towel to floss his ass after he showered. I had my doubts about his hygeine to begin with. |
Once a week. If you're worried about wiping your ass with the towel, you're not getting clean enough.
I use a new towel per week. I can go about 3 months without doing a load of towels... I have alot of them.
My girlfriend, however, uses a new body towel, hair towel, and face cloth EVERY FREAKING DAY!!! I share the opinion that as long as I hang the towels up after I use them, they're fine the next day. |
I just trust my nose, not the calendar.
I have three towels hanging on a towel holder, and I alternate their use. As soon as one starts to smell "sour" - they all get washed. Easy. Also - no fabric softener for the towels - it affects their ability to soak up water. Dryer sheets are OK, though |

yeah about once a week actually if it starts getting alittle weird smell wise i'll wash it earlier but typically about a week |
Once a week... After all your clean when you come out of the shower...Just remember to wash EVERYTHING and you won't have any "marks" on the towel when you are done drying.
Any of you read that Dilbert cartoon about this?
Wally says something like, "I don't understand why I should have to wash my bath towels periodically. When I get through with my bath I'm the cleanest thing in my house. Theoretically then, my towels should be getting cleaner every time I use them." There is silence for a few moments, and in the last panel Wally asks Dilbert, "Should towels bend?" |
when i was growing up there were 3 boys using the same bathroom and we just used whatever towel was hanging up. I am sure we used those towels for a very very long time....I never got sick, I could still find dates, so, I dont think they need changed uless you are moping the floor with them.
New towel every time I shower. There's no way I could use a towel all week.... ew!
New towel every shower here..... uhhh thought everyone did that..... weird
Eh I use a new one every day, until that fateful day where no one does the towel laundry...and im forced to use the same one twice *Gasp* ...but yea, one a day.
I use about 2-3 towels per week. I just let them air dry after each usage, like some of the other people have stated.
I just take whatever is lying .. Sometimes new, sometimes old :)

I was looking over one of my Men's Health magazines and came across this in the 'One-Word Answers' section.
Men's Health April 2003, page 30 How many days can I use a towel before laundering it? 7 Infectious bacteria and fungi (like the one that causes athlete's foot) can't survive on a towel once it's dry, says Syed Satter, Ph.D., a professor of microbiology. Each time you towel off, however, you rub bacteria from your skin onto the towel, slowing down the fabric's drying speed. After 7 days, your towel accumulates enough organic material to actually form a barrier that protects the bad bacteria. After a week, do what Eddie Futch did in round 15 of the Rumble in the Jungle: Toss in the towel. |
i think i do it around once a week, but i don't really keep track of it. Also, nothing bad has happened to me yet.
Yes 1 or 2 times a week.
Same here. Usually 5 or 6 days between changes, but it all depends on how many times I have showered during that time. I usually shower twice a day (after workout and before work).
1to 2 times per week.

Use a new one every time.

I use a new towel everytime I shower... actually it's usually one for hair and one for body
Interesting topic for a thread. My wife uses a new one every day. It builds up the laundry very quickly. I use one or two a week. I NEVER stick the towel in my ass, even though I know it is clean.
I usually change them every two days. That's unless I'm feeling grimy, in which case I'll change it daily.
I air dry my stupid towel until it starts smelling nasty, maybe change once a week. Now if I had more than two good towels, it might be different.
I'll usually change mine every 2 or 3 showers. I like the idea about keeping a separate one for face.. so I can keep the same towel for the body longer. I'll give that a try, thanks!
Oh wow, at home I used a new one each day but here at college I have two towels and I've used them for three weeks without washing them.
I use a towel twice, and then change it. We don't have a lot of towels anyway, so that works out well. Prefereably, we'd have a washer/dryer, free water, and lots of fluffy towels :P
You mean you're supposed to WASH those things??? If you shower/bathe correctly then you SHOULD be as clean as the clean towel...all it is is water...I reuse mine over and over...I'm usually too lazy to toss it into the laundry shoot and get a new one...ACTUALLY I DO use a new one if for some reason the towel I used before wasn't dry or was still damp...then I'd toss it in the laundry shoot and get me a nice dry one...THANX
C'YA ?:-D |
once a week or so....
1 towel for every 3-4 days
2 days
when i get out of the shower i am clean, my towel is clean. unless my brother throws it on the floor, then it's done for. damn roomates!!!
once a week
every day...i dont even use the same wash clothe twice
I've been using the same towel for... 5 weeks now? maybe if laundry was cheap i'd change it more often but naaaaah.
You know what? I never thought about that...Once a week, just cause it doesnt have that freshness smell -means it needs to be changed.
I use a new towel every shower.
I change it once a week, mostly because laundry is expensive, and im just wiping water off. It isn't a big deal to me.
I change my towel every one to two weeks. I use one side for hair/face and the other side for the rest of my body (I keep track by looking at the tag). Then I hang it up to dry. I don't see how bath towels would get dirty enough to discard after only one use anyways.
