Just ran out of shaving cream!!

I'm curious as to everyone's solutions when they have a nice two day growth of hair they have to get rid of quick, and all that dribbles out of that damn shaving cream dispenser is a tiny little fingertip-sized speck of gel.

Mitzkrieg 08-12-2003 10:56 AM

soap!! work up a decent lather and shave away. i recently had to do this 2 weeks ago when i went on a weekend trip. forgot to bring the shaving cream and had to use the complimentary soap in the hotel room, lol. and it actually worked and felt really good!

my fiance did the same thing with shaving her legs and she thought it was even better than the shaving cream she used at home.

SiN 08-12-2003 11:10 AM

lotion?

Cynthetiq 08-12-2003 12:32 PM

a good lathering soap in warm water... you can also use a nice hot towel :)

Spinach_Indeed 08-12-2003 12:38 PM

Use Peanut Butter. It's supposed to make your skin really smooth, although I have no attempted this particular remedy

skysooner 08-12-2003 12:57 PM

Yes, soak a small towel in very hot water and hold it on your beard for at least 30 seconds. Then lather up some soap and go to town. You need to be somewhat careful with this as it doesn't soften your beard as much as shaving cream will. I'm more prone to cutting myself doing it this way, but it works in a pinch. It also helps to heat up your razor blade in the water as well.

Butter...it worked for Kramer.

giblfiz 08-12-2003 05:55 PM

Soap is what you should be using. It's what they used in the day's before shaving cream soap was all they used. But then they did have nifty little brushes to foam the soap up.

Jonsgirl 08-13-2003 12:51 AM

Conditioner. It acts like lotion to soften the skin and softens the hair to make it easier it shave.

Spartak 08-13-2003 01:37 AM

I ran into this dilemma a couple of weeks ago, and soap did the job.

But now I invested into some Body Shop(tm) shaving oil. It's cool how its all animal/evironment safe and stuff, but does it HAVE to reek of leather?

Does it's job though, really close shave.

geep 08-13-2003 05:44 AM

I never use shaving cream. I use soap.

TIO 08-13-2003 08:03 AM

I've got a spare tube of gel hanging around for just such an occasion (one of those ones you get it the toilet bag if you fly business class). But if I'm shaving in the shower, I find that if I keep my face under the water while I shave, the running water is enough lubrication.

shalafi 08-13-2003 08:08 AM

just grow it out and get an eye patch and tell everybody your a pirate

Leviathan[NCV] 08-13-2003 10:08 AM

When I'm single, I don't even bother with anything. Just shave dry.

JSD 08-13-2003 10:24 AM

Soap or shampoo, anything to help lubercate the face.

theinfamous 08-13-2003 01:00 PM

or you can get yourself an electric razor and never have to use shaving cream again

Bamrak 08-13-2003 01:23 PM

shampoo, while showering.

greytone 08-17-2003 01:14 PM

For a long time I used to use soap anyway. Just make sure you really lather it up. Shaving cream is just soap anyway.

Why did you have to say that? I have to go try that now.

Raw Kuts 08-20-2003 10:08 PM

I just shave in the shower with the water running over me constantly (take no notice that I didn't say face).

JTC 08-21-2003 03:25 AM

Was just about to recommend the same thing as Raw Kuts.

Have a nice warm shower
Get a new razor
Make sure your skin is softened up (under the warm water)
Make sure the blade is nice and hot (again under the water)
Then shave in the shower

Only problem is that you have no mirror

Other than that... too easy

Thought i was the only one...hehe...*wanders over to fridge while feeling three-day beard growth....*

Well, I tried the peanut butter yesterday, and while it required more frequent washing of the razor, my face was the smoothest that it has been in months.

Baldrick 08-24-2003 10:54 AM

I have a really thick beard, and always shave immediately after a hot shower, and don't bother with any shaving cream. My beard is softened up enough by the shower that I can shave "dry" and get a nice close shave.

I've only tried shaving dry without a shower once... and only once... I slept in for work one morning, leaped out of bed and didn't have enough time for a shower. So, like an idiot, I grab the razor and scrape it across my dry face. What made this interesting experience even worse was the large salty tears which followed closely behind the first swipe of the razor...

Needless to say, I haven't slept in since! :)
