Parking in NYC
Is there a secret place to park for free in NYC for weeks on end without having to move your car?

Wasn't this a Seinfeld episode?!

you may find some neighborhoods in the other boroughs (e.g., Queens) where this may be possible. But, not sure if you just want to leave your car unattended for weeks!
Also, some of the hotels by the airport may allow you to park for free up to 30 days if you stay with them for just one night..something else to consider |
Interesting Idea wiseguy...

AFAIK there is no place in Manhattan. In the outerboroughs, you can find a few spots here and there, but not many. Also there are the coveted spots that you only have to move your car once a week.
But, the alternate side parking rules apply unless it's a holiday, so if the holiday fits, you don't have to move it. http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/dot/htm.../scrintro.html |
I heard about these one day a week moving places, but I bet that there is a lot of competition for them. Sometimes I think people don't even work, they just move their car around all week...

I have a friend who bought a car just to keep the low priced parking space he had in Chinatown. Parking in a monthly spot can go for around US$199 to US$400 depending on what part of town it is. There is also an 18% parking tax, if you are a resident of Manhattan you get a discount on that tax.
In some of the outside boroughs, people who have garages sometimes rent those out privately. |
perfect place for this
A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she is going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5000. The bank officers says the bank will need some kind of security for such a loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce, parked on the street, in front of the bank. Everything checks out, and the bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. An employee drives the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the blonde returns and repays the $5000, and the interest, which is $15.41. The loan officer says, "We are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why would you bother to borrow $5000?" The blonde replied, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for 2 weeks for $15.00?" |
Plenty of parking in Brooklyn.

Thats a good one lafemmefatale! I should try that. Of course I'd probably just spend the money and sink further into debt...
