Geling your hair
I've recently decided to change my hairstyle and i've started to gel my hair
however, i've heard from ppl that gelling ur hair on a regular basis contributes to hair loss is this just a myth? Or is there a certain level of truth to it? cause i'm kinda shaky on gelling my hair now :( thx in advance anyway for any useful input |
ive been spiking my hair with gel since 7th grade... thats like 6 years... and i still have all my hair... gel is designed for hair...
i guess if you used gel in your hair for like 60 years... you might lose hair... (but still not from the gel) |
You might pull out some loose hair, otherwise it's just not true.
use wax or something.. it looks the same but doesn't hurt and get all fucked up and hard
another good product is ice spiker, but that stuff does have a history of resulting in hair loss, if you use a lot of it and sleep with it in and if you dont' purchase special shampoo to get it out. Basically all that happens is the products stays in your hair and when you sleep, it rips your hair out. Other than htat, i'm pretty sure most products are safe. I would guess that wax is the safest, and probably the best choice. You get the same look out of it. Also, spend the extra cash and you will get quality stuff. |
I've been geling my hair for about two years now. Feels all there to me.
Sounds like a myth to me. I used gel for about 10 years, but have since switched to wax, doesn't get all hard and crusty looking.
It's a myth. Just like wearing a hat every day.
it's bs

Tea Tree styling gel r0x0rs. I have been using gel since I was like 8, and I have more hair than I know what to deal with :)
if you take care of your hair and use products per their directions you shouldn't have a problem. you shouldn't comb or brush your hair with any sort of gel or spray in it, though--that will pull out your hair...and hurt. oww. also, make sure you use a good shampoo that will get all the residue from styling products out of your hair. that will make your hair look healthier and behave better in general.
heh--sorry for being such a girl. |
:) i don't put anything in my hair... I also don't blow dry it... most women and hair stylists comment on how soft and wonderful my long hair is...
when it was short.. I'd gel it and I still have lots of hair... |
I'd pick gel over wax anyday....i dont like the sticky feeling you get when ya run your hand through your hair.
I've used gel and wax and recently started using Hair Play Molding Paste, from KMS. I like it much better than either gel or wax. Talk to your friends, try out their stuff. People are always happy to let you use some of their gel or wax or whatever. Experiment and find something you like.
I use gel, but I don't like the "wet look," so I usually rub it out after about an hour... I hope it does not contribute to hair loss, cause mine is getting kinda thin.
i've only used gel a few times and girls have put it in my hair ans styled it for me so whatever. they liked it, but i cut most of my hair off not too long ago.
I never used gel, and I have a receeding hair line at 20 =P
i've been using gel (only limited amounts) for over 10 years. Have not noticed any significant hair loss. Although I have heard that blow drying hair may have something to do with it...
I've been using gel/Mousse/Wax for quite a long time also, at first I thought that it was contributing to my hair loss, but after 10+ years of using hair products, my hair is still there. Personally I like mousse over gel, because it doesn't flake off like gel. I like wax the least, because it leaves CRAZY residue on your hair... and if you actually touch your hair, you get that wax (or pomade) on your hands.
I used to always spike my hair....used too much gel....now i kinda grew outta it
I've used gel and or other various product for over a decade and i've got more hair than i can cope with. Complete urban legend, myth, or what-have-you.
Buy quality product that's designed for your hairstyle and you'll be rewarded. Just ask what your hairstylist would reccomend, and then go to the beauty-supply shop of your choice and buy it for half price. (make sure you tip your stylist decent though because they're not getting the comission on your product sales - nothing's worse than an intentionally bad haircut) |
Ive been geling my hair for almost 20 years and Im not bald yet. Given my family background, I fully expect to be.
i've been using hair gel for many many years. i think the reason people think it makes your hair fall out is because loose hair will stick to your gel covered fingers, because i notice a lot of that happening, but i'm not going bald and i don't have any thin spots or anything.

I user American Greaser 90 wieght (with old spice). It'll keep your hair pliable for days.
The bitch of it is, if you decide you want it out... it's about a 3 wash process. Oh yeah, and it'll mess up your pillow cases. And people don't like to touch it. |
Been using gel and other products for quite some time....probably 15 years or so when I figured out what fashion sense was. I have a full head of hair still and look forward to a full life of it. Gel away my friend.
used it when i was like 13... you live you learn :)
i dont really think too much about my apperance nowadays :D i feel sorry for the ones that do though :) |
