*sigh*
Hasn't that journalist heard about walking a mile in another person's shoes? What on earth would make him 1. write an article without even talking to its subject? 2. assume that ANY mother would rather be deployed in Afghanistan than be home with her 3-year-old son? People like that give us peaceniks a bad name.

Here's the article that inspired it. My thoughts to follow when I read it.

lurkette,
This guy isn't a peacenik, he's a reactionary christian scumbag of the worst sort. He really needs to be tossed to the lions, calling her a judas for joining the military for the benefits. 1 out of 2 4-year enlistees join because of the GI Bill, christ, it's probably the single best veteran benefit ever created. #$%#%^@#@@#%!!!!! #@#$@#$^!!!!!!!!

Anybody else get the impression that htis guy was born with a silver spoon wedged up his... ah, that's not fair. I assuming just like this "journalist" did. But it seems that he is unable to discern what a benefit college tuition and child-care programs can be.
Luckily for us, this guy is easy to expose as an unthinking, unfeeling ignoramous. Unfortunately, it's the unthinking, unfeeling ignoramous's that hide behind an air of authority that are more difficult to see through. They are far more dangerous than an idiot at a keyboard. |

Well, something we can all agree on:
This gentleman is a complete ass.

What a moron. If the three year old child had no father to live with, then he would perhaps have a point in that one instance but to suggest that women who give birth to children, ever, should not serve in the military is pretty ridiculous.

Should dad's not be allowed to serve? They are away from their children months at a time too. I notice this "ass" addresses mothers only. Mr. President, please bring the dad's home, their children need them!

My thing is this, does the guy think that she actually enjoys being away from her 3 yr. boy?!? While I'll agree that she has probably spent too much time away from her son, it doesn't mean that she's a terrible person and a bad mother. She did say she joined the army to "earn college benefits and improve her family's lot in life." and I think she's doing exactly that. This guy is completely off his rocker.
