Some of you know about my neighbors.

Some do not.

Let me give you an idea of what this crowd of inbred, mouth-breathing, welfare-cheating, wife-beating, child-abusing, animal-neglecting White Trash are like.

I just saw two of their kids go tearing down the road on a 4-wheeler...chasing a dog. The dog was not chasing them, -they- were chasing -it- down a one-lane road with barbed-wire cattle fences on both sides. I know this dog: it's one of theirs, so they weren't trying to chase off a stray. A few minutes later they were back, -still- chasing the dog, which by this point was visibly flagging (black longhair in summer, gofigure).

Now, that 4-wheeler (one of 3 just like it) is newer, nicer, more expensive and has better features than my car. It, like everything else they own, was paid for with my money, since only one of these people has a job: driving school-buses part time. And they just used my money to abuse an innocent creature that's done no harm to me or them.

Two summers ago, their kids were racing their new dirt-bikes down the road and ran over one of my female ducks and broke her leg and back. One of the kids came into the shop and said "UUUuuuuh...thinkerz sumpin rawng wiyyer duck." Imagine a 13-year-old kid saying that and sounding both rather jittery and -very- intoxicated. We then had to explain to them that yes, when you run over a fragile living thing with an 800lb motorcycle, it hurts them. In this case, of course, we had to put the duck down, with the result that all 12 of her ducklings were dead within 12hrs since Mama wasn't around to protect/warn them anymore. The kid has never yet apologized for or even acknowledged what he did, despite the feathers in his tyres.

Yet at the same time, this same family has more "pets" than people stuffed into their home: 6-8 dogs, an equal number of birds/lizards/ferrets/exotics, three dozen goats of various breeds, one Alpaca, and at one time a pet alligator. Although they haven't done so with the 'gator that I know of, standard procedure with these people is to simply release any "pet" they don't want anymore into the area. I've found parakeets (in winter), dogs, at least one Ferret (shot trying to get into my chicken-house), a three-legged cat...and this isn't even getting into the way they "take care" of these creatures! None of the goats have been castrated, so the Billys (4) stink to heaven whenever one of the Nannies gets horny. Likewise the male dogs and cats, so they're always overrun (and so are we). -None- of their animals have had Rabies vaccinations: likewise Parvo, FIV, Distemper. That whole end of the road looks, smells, and acts like a North Korean bio-weapons laboratory.

This shit just burns me up. Animal abuse is one of my biiiig sore points: I'm a hunter and a farmer and I shoot critters that get after my stock or my cats. But I do 'em quick and clean or not at all, and I have no use atall for people who abuse lesser creatures. Got no reason t'be breathin' my air.

Just ranting, folks. Anybody else seen or lived near this kind of thing?

Yep, both sides, 20 to 30 dogs and 12 + horses to my right.... and one mad and crazy vicious junkyard dog to my left that has bitten me, I carry a nightstick down to the bus stop when she is out, I've told the owners I will kill her if she comes near me or my children ever again. The horse lady has had the SPCA called on her by every neighbor around. What to do......? We are trying to move.

I used to love the smell of horses, not these horses, God bless them. I am embarrassed to invite people to my house as in the heat of summer you can smell the dog run like nothing I have ever smelt before in my life, It nauseates me to be outside my own house when the weather is 87 degrees or above. What to do? The dog/horse lady we sincerely try to avoid, she is one of those, "oh whoa is me, I need help" but you can never help her enough and she is always asking for more, more, more, but never recognizing the suffering of her own animals.... shame (we did adopt one of her puppies, but that's another story). As for junkyard dog, The owner is a wonderful man whom I really like and he just loves this dog, this vicious, crazy, eat your ass in a heartbeat dog, seriously, this dog is terrifying, half lab so she wags her tail and is sweet in the face, half rottweiler, yeah, fucking eat you while she's smiling kind of bitch. Good luck The_Dunedan, anticipate worsening as the wild heathen children grow into cars, we have erected a wooden fence to protect the kids and block the views.... I am sorry to hear about your hen and her ducklings, how very sad.

I have no issue with the killing of animals, but the killing of animals for fun is abhorent to me

I can accept someone hunting an animal for food or its skin, when it is killed quickly and efficiently. I do not accept a bunch of upper class twats spending hours riding around and tormenting a buck or a fox to death.

Luckily the UK is rabies free.

1. The thought of the dog's exhaustion probably never crossed the minds of those children, and that failing isn't particular to hicks.
2. Blame the government for handing out your money, not the families willing to accept it.
3. Children prefer avoiding blame when possible, so I wouldn't have expected an honest, complete explanation of the circumstances that resulted in the duck's death. Apologizing is awkward, and accidents happen. By the way, it's likely that the kid can't alter his accent and wasn't expecting to be looked down upon for it.
4. Given that you live in a rural area, it is unlikely that others would commonly adopt unwanted animals, especially noisy parakeets, weasels, and crippled cats. Perhaps they should have exercised forethought in purchasing the creatures, and maybe euthanasia would be more humane, but that is debatable.
5. Castrating an animal could be considered a form of cruelty and violence, and it also costs money for a professional operation.

Then they have no business owning a dog. The eldest is 15.

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you. However, given the various methods employed by this clan to -keep- that money, and use it for toys (new cars, dirt-bikes, 4-wheelers) rather than paying off debts or repairing the -last- cars they financed this way, I must disagree and assign a great deal of blame for this to the recipients.

Sorry, but if the kid's old enough to be bouncing around on a motorcycle, endangering others and their livestock, he's old enough to own up when he does something like that. That duck was worth a lot of eggs and meat in her ducklings, and that means something to people who work for (and with) their food.

If this was his natural accent, you'd be correct. However, recall that he sounded intoxicated. Unfortunately, an intoxicated 13-year-old on a motorcycle would not be unusual for this bunch. I've encountered visibly meth-addicted HS students on this road.

Our vet does it for $10.00, or free for the truly poor. This bunch can afford it, they just don't give a shit. Likewise Rabies vaccs. For the goats, that's why they make the Elastrator, or maybe an old redneck* farmer with a straight-razor and sharp teeth. As for cruel: cruel is having too many intact males (of whatever species), not enough females, and the males killing or maiming each other in fights. Castration also produces edible meat: and without that, the vast majority of male cows, goats, and sheep would simply be slaughtered and disposed of as inedible, or killed very young as veal, lamb, or kid. The way this bunch simply refuse to take care of their animals just plain burns me.


*Redneck, as opposed to White Trash. Important distinction.

Sadly, around here, it takes;

1: Shooting at a cop,

2: Burning someone out,

3: Murder or attempted murder.

4: Theft of a firearm, a car, or several thousand dollars worth of actually worthwhile stuff.

...to get the attention of the Sherrif's Office out here. "Cornbread Mafia" doesn't begin to describe this place....ugh.

Edited To Add: I use this incident only as a perfect example of what this place is like at times. There are people like this in every area, from every ethnic and religious background. I just wonder, sometimes, if they aren't proof that evolution has begun to work in reverse.

Heh. Reminds me of my buddy, a black guy in Iowa who moved in to the apartment next to a Neo-Nazi family. Craziest thing I ever saw, the neo-Nazis invited him over to a scary (but ultimately just incredibly awkward) BBQ and then were forced to leave a couple of months later after the only breadwinner got arrested and extradited to another state. Those were some truly crazy neighbors.

If they were working, would you tell their bosses to cut their pay because of the way they're spending the money? Or perhaps tell them to shut the company down because of the irresponsibility of a few employees?

While I agree this family is spending their money foolishly, it's not the government's fault. Toys like that are expensive - they are more than likely defrauding the government if they can pay for lavish toys like ATVs and dirt bikes. It's one thing to spend $10 on a couple of MacDonald's meals rather than a week's worth of protein; it's quite another to spend thousands of dollars on toys when you supposedly can't feed your kids.

Maybe you should take some home movies of all the machinery, Dunedan, and show them at your local Welfare office.

You have my sympathy - I've had some neighbors-from-hell stories over the years, but your circumstances humble me. Not to open another can of worms, but that's why I prefer to live in communities with HOAs. Yes - I may be crammed into a house 10 feet from my neighbor's; but then again, they can't own more than two licensed pets, and ATVs are strictly forbidden.

On the bad side, I can't raise ducks . . . .

I love animals myself but I had a neighbor once who had such an obnoxious dog I remember one time it came into our yard looking for some tail (we had a female dog), he came to a stop and started staring me down (the dog's name was "Boss"...which I took as a negative reflection on the owner). Maintaining eye contact I slowly picked up a rock a little smaller than a golfball and flung it at Boss from about 40 yards away. This rock hit Boss right between the freakin eyes - a miracle shot I have since been unable to achieve accuracy-wise with anything, a baseball, football, frisbee (I did accidently hit a lady in the head with a frisbee at the beach once) He yelped, bolted away and never showed his hide around again. I am not advocating violence, just passing on a story. Best of luck.

And to the state's child protective services department, if the locals won't do anything about drunk and high teenagers.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this crap, I had some serious white trash neighbors in my neighborhood who could afford to live in the area because one got a big personal injury settlement and they were all set for life (not that i'm particularly wealthy, but my parents bought the house back in the '70s and through the miracle of refinancing, we're still paying off the mortgage,) and they were like the bad neighbors from TV. Their house itself was in decent shape, but oddly still had small high windows like a trailer. The yard had patchy grass and dirt, not helped much by the fact that they owned a tractor trailer for a hauling business they ran out of their home, which they would frequently have parked outside as they welded and worked on it, and drove it across the lawn to park it in the back yard.

They had a few dogs over the years that they let roam free around the neighborhood terrorizing other pets, children, and even adults; Bud, the doberman, would lay in wait for my neighbor, who was pregnant, to come home and run at her from the bushes. She called animal control once, but Richie, one of the brothers (the family was two or three brothers and their elderly mother,) told her if she ever did anything to have the dog taken away he'd pour gas around the foundation of her house and burn it down while they were asleep. They moved out not long after that. After an undetermined neighbor had enough of Bud terrorizing the neighbors and shot him one day when Richie wasn't home, they got Buster, who was an almost completely harmelss and incredibly stupid German Shepard who was eventually run over by a delivery truck while sleeping in the road. Then they got Petey, the pit bull who may or may not have eaten a few neighborhood cats.

Richie was also an alcoholic and an angry drunk. My street became the highlight of the elementary school bus route one day when Richie got drunk, shot the side of his pickup truck (of course he had a pickup truck) around 30 times, then made light of it by spraypainting "OUCH" on the side. The peak of it came a few years later when my mom and I got home to find our street lined with SWAT and FBI vehicles with officers and agents combing the area for Richie after some sort of drug-related incident. We were told to get inside, lock the doors, and stay away from the windows. (side note, of 3 SWAT incidents in Fairfield's history, all have taken place in the past 20 years and 2 were less then 3 houses down in either direction from my house.)
