Friday, July 17, 2009

NEW YORK — Famed CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite dies at 92, known as 'most trusted man in America' .

As anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981, Cronkite became the symbol of CBS News and the face two generations of Americans associate with some of the biggest stories of the 20th century, CBS News said Friday night in a statement.

Walter Cronkite seemed to me one of those men who would just keep on living. You counted on it. :(

Although it seemed he'd been around forever, I honestly didnt know he was that old....

Just heard this, sad for all his family. Got to admit the man lived a full life.

Have to admit, I thought he died a few years ago. But then again, I thought that of Carl Malden also.

Waltor Cronkite is dead.

Waltor Cronkite, a man who just told us what was going on, without the high level of BS we have to endure today, has died.

I Will Miss Him.

Walter Cronkite was a real journalist. RIP, Mr. Cronkite.

You won't see the like of him again - Cronkite was effectively America's voice. Everyone tuned in to hear him and trusted in his words. Today, with the proliferation of so many information sources in so many media, the odds of there being another great iconic journalist again are pretty small.

He was a legend when I was a fetus.

The last time I hit Disney World / Epcot Center, his voice was used for a few of the educational 'rides' or what not. I wonder how long they'll continue to use him - or if they still are. I always found his voice so cathartic for some reason. But I did actually hear something briefly on the news how his voice made people feel reassured or something. I found that interesting.

He was a real "newspaper man." I grew up with his voice each night on the one channel we could pick up on our B&W TV.

True journalism has lost it's voice. Goodbye Mr. Cronkite. And that's the way it is. Friday July 17th, 2009.
