I lost the will to live

Is there any purpose of life other than procreating.

What good is life if in the end we all die?
There is no end goal and I'm not enjoying the journey.

Life is just one small transaction at a time. It's up to you to figure out who's paying the tab.

We all die, it's a fact.. so now that you've come to terms with that, you don't fear death so you should be enjoying life even more. The end goal is to enjoy the time you did have.

LoganSnake 03-19-2009 05:51 AM

Life is a brief period between birth and death. It's up to you how to pass the time and whether you make it shorter. Just don't forget about the people whose lives you may be hurting if there are any.

procreating is not the only legacy you can leave. You can touch the lives of others by something you create or accomplish. Be creative - make music, write a book, paint. Invent something that improves the lives of others. Help others. Volunteer. Make someone else feel loved and wanted. We all have something to give. That is what life is good for. Sharing with others and enjoying your time on earth.

Personally, my curiosity is what keeps me going. I want to learn more; certainly, there is more information out there than I can learn and comprehend in a lifetime, but I'm too curious to quit learning. To that end, I want to pass that curiosity on to as many young people as possible. As a future teacher, I want my desire to learn to be infectious. That's another thing that keeps me going--all the young minds out there that need a helping hand.

I have a quote from Socrates in my blog that I often think about: "The unexamined life is not worth living." For me, learning lessons is not just about books and classes, but about looking at my own life and seeing what it has taught me, and growing in a positive direction based on what I've learned.

There's obviously something to it if you're asking us instead of killing yourself. Figure out what it is and embrace it.

Don't like the journey? Take a detour. Do something different. Get off the grid. Change continents. Get a job as a sherpa.

From a biological perspective, yeah, propagation of the species is the point of life.

Philosophically speaking? Life is what you make it. As long as your conscious, you might as well enjoy it.

mixedmedia 03-19-2009 04:46 PM

I think people attribute to much 'meaning' to 'purpose.'

Fuck that.

If you can't find purpose, then find pleasure. It is both good and a goal.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

...but please...don't salt the land behind you.

Weclome, aften.
Your voice is heard.
We are all in the same soup.

Together we swim, and reach out to those who are about to go under.

You reached out.
Grab on to something and hold on.

Peace & Joy.

Life requires procreation as a precondition, but life does not require procreation as a "post-condition."

Without death, there would be no such thing as life. What good is death if one does not choose to live while alive?

The journey is the goal.

These ideas are not new; they are thousands of years old.

You are not alone in your despair.

We are all interconnected—throughout the universe.

We "inter-are."

Sometimes desire might seem the answer, but often it is desire that is getting in the way. Sometimes you have to let go of it awhile to see what you are here to do.

Zeraph 03-21-2009 09:41 AM

You're right in a way that there really is no objective outside frame of reference end goal. You need to make your own. That's the beauty of free will.

And if that's not enough reason to stick around, then consider that leaving this life most likely won't solve your problems. Whatever you become after death, you'll still be you. No escaping it.

PS if that still isn't enough, DRUGS! Legal and otherwise.

Toots 03-25-2009 01:20 PM

Live, have fun, visit as many places you can, and touch as many people's lives as possible. That is the only way to live on. An awesome book to help you find an answer is Tuesdays With Morrie. Basically, a man visits his old professor/mentor after the professor was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Great read, didn't take longer than a week. I can't cry at books, but this one was sad.

Not to add to your sadness, but your grave will be dug up to be reused in 300 years after your death. The pre-determined date that you will be forgotten.

Okay! See ya! Have a good trip! :shakehead:

genuinegirly 03-25-2009 01:45 PM

Er, I thought the end goal was death.
A long great sleep that is way more rewarding than the naps I get around here.
Live and breathe and step and move - hopefully in a positive direction. And occasionally shoot the breeze with those who enjoy your company. Like me.

BogeyDope 03-26-2009 07:04 AM

I've been through this same shit when I lost religion in the 9th grade. For quite a while I had depression, at times severe. I realized however, that life is what you make of it. I didn't have depression because of chemical imbalances, I had it because I wanted to. Whatever you want to make of something is what that thing will become.

So in essence, stop bitching, and just go with the flow. Don't think about it's point in the end, otherwise all you will want to do is commit suicide. I mean, there is no point after all, right?

<<No, please don't commit suicide, it's just an extreme example>>

AHAHAHAHA Oh lawd that was excellent!:D

Xerxys 03-26-2009 08:44 AM

Dude, if you think that the "ONLY" goal to life is procreating and don't do it, then that must explain the funk.

Go procreate ... you will not want to do anything else. I promise.

I did the procreation thing (what fun that was!) Now I'm into enjoying the being. Scoring a Panasonic Bluray (BD35) yesterday for $98 at Best Buy is part of the enjoyment. such a deal. such a high.

Are they not coming back?

n0nsensical 03-30-2009 11:11 PM

The purpose of your life is whatever you want it to be. You're the master of your own reality, either make it what you wish or don't. Don't like your job? Quit. Want to travel the world? Walk out your door. Wanna fly through outer space? Learn astral projection. Some people may honestly be better off without it, see Kurt Cobain. And that is one truth our society refuses to admit. But why don't you try changing something first.

Lucifer 03-31-2009 05:03 AM

I'm really curious as why this thread continues to be written in, seeing as the OP hasn't been back even once to check on it.

Well SOMEONE's going to read it, even if they don't. It's a common theme.

Poppinjay 04-02-2009 12:52 PM

eh, the OP is face down in a pool of dried vomit.

The reason to keep breathing is that life is interesting, people are curious, and Garbage has new album coming out.

I'm only happy when it rains.
