What do you carry with you, all day, every day?
So, I know there are whole boards (of which I am a member) devoted to 'every day carry', but the 'ideal pocket knife' thread got me interested in seeing what non-'EDC enthusiasts' carry through their lives.
By comparison with my 'peers' on the enthusaist's board, I travel light, but my IRL companions are frequently a little surprised at my pocket contents. I currently carry, at all times: Right Front Pocket: T-Mobile G1 Cell phone Pen (make varies) Gerber Easy-Out partially serrated locking pocket knife (clipped) In right front 'watch pocket': Boker Rescom seatbelt/textile rescue knife, in red Left front pocket: Combination Moneyclip/wallet Stride gum (or similar, in low profile pack) Nitecore EX10 GD+ flashlight, infinitely adjustable from 3 to 130 lumens 8 gig thumbdrives x 2: -one for temporary storage of music/movies/documents -one loaded with tools and programs, including malwarebytes, bootable stand-alone install of ubuntu, portable opera, etc etc. Back right pocket: Lanyard Keychain with: Leatherman Micra Red LED coin cell light (the flat round kind you squeeze)--good for night vision/not waking people up Various car and house keys and (occasionally) spy capsule with dayquill/tums/asprin/etc depending on if I have or predict any particular medical malady that day. Back Left pocket: Empty, reserved for tickets, parking stubs--any temporary pocket storage, or I-pod nano, 250gig hard drive, etc, on a rotating as-needed basis. So, what does everyone carry with them AT ALL TIMES (I'm not talking about 'what do you take on a camping trip' here)? |
I hate pockets full of things.. so I carry my backpack..
only things that are in it are my blackberry, pack of smokes, wallet, and my laptop on some days. Only thing in my pocket is a lighter and that stays in the fifth pocket. |
I always carry my various cards (school ID, driver's license, library card, debit card), car/bike/house keys on a carabiner, cell phone, and iPod on my person--the cards are either in the back pocket of my pants or the chest pocket of my jacket, the other things are in various other pockets.
I usually have my backpack, and it contains my planner, my mechanical pencils, a drawing pencil, my Quizdom remote, my graphing calculator, sunscreen, an emergency Clif bar, a small first aid kit, emergency feminine hygiene products, Midol, Prilosec, spare lead, spare erasers, and a notebook for writing and doodling in. |
I hate full pockets. My pocket regimen over the last few years has been all about minimizing.
Left front: iPhone Right Front: Wallet (smallish leather money-clip style, with a card pocket), Keychain (including three "loyalty card" keychain cards, a leatherman micra, and an RSA SecureID random number generator for my work VPN.) Back pockets: nothing When I get to work, I dump this stuff on my desk. When I get home from work, I dump this stuff on my desk. I really only carry my things when I'm in transit. |
right front
wadded bills and change zippo pocket knife left front cell phone right back empty wallet  left back smokes keys are on D-ring clipped to belt loop |
Wallet, keys, cell phone. I hate carrying lots of things so I keep it as simple as possible. I'd love to carry some kind of weapon but it just isn't practical for me.
|
I hate full pockets too, short of change and the wallet, nothing goes in the pockets. My messenger bag is always packed with my cell phone, at least one camera, three lenses minimum, a flash, memory cards, a book, Dr. Grip pen, chapstick, handkerchief, keys, hand lotion and self-esteem supplements (iPod).
It's pretty embarrassing to see all that typed out. |
I keep narrowing and narrowing.
Presently I have a little side slung crochet bag in which I keep a wallet, my keys, phone, pen, sm. pillbox with Advil, iPod, chewing gum and Carmex (lip balm). And my lens cap if I am carrying my camera. |
I don't carry anything on my person, but my laptop bag is chock full of my every day goodies; Macbook, charger, iPod, sport headphones (I can't stand earbuds), cell phone, a pouch full of cosmetics (lip glosses, lipstick, hand lotion), a pouch full of pencils, pens and highlighters, a pouch of "medicinals" (tampons, contact case, Exedrine, toothpaste, condoms), day planner, legal pad, and various seasonal items such as tissues and gloves. The sonofabitch weighs damn near twenty pounds....
Sometimes I switch to a smaller bag for the weekend, but I'm usually toting my red faux-crocodile laptop bag. |
Pockets: Wallet in my back right.
Bag: Keys, pen, iPod and headphones, blackberry (unless it's on my belt) I don't like carrying a lot of crap. |
Watch, wallet, Badge. Hmmm, I thought I was the only one who left stuff in my car cause carrying them is a pain.
|
front right: cellphone, currently tmobile G1 hacked.
front left: keys, with about 4 keys on it and my car starter/alarm clip. back right: wallet, ALWAYS. back left: a small knife. 5th pocket: chapstick, HAS to be Carmex. other than that. NOTHING. i dont like changing it up. haha. |
may be in different bag depending on where I am off to but keys wallet tissues and notebook and pen
|
Wallet, house keys, car keys, carmex, money clip. My briefcase has whatever book or printout I'm reading, ipod, extra business cards, production reports, my propaganda and multiple types of cell phone chargers.
|
apart from myself which i carry only 3 things..phone, keys, wallet. i carry a small wallet that is more of a card holder so that i dont have to carry change and crop in it
ive always got a bag with my gym/swimming gear...just in case i decide to drop off at a beach somewhere |
my blackberry, wallet, purse (of course), a pen, my key card to get in to work, lotion for my hands, and not every day, but sometimes I can fit my lunch in my purse too :D
|
Every day carry goes like this:
Front left: Cell phone, lighter Front right: Keys Back left: Comb Back right: Wallet And then in my jacket, I have three inside pockets. Bottom left: Pen(s), spare lighter Top left: Cigarettes And the right inside pocket is for any temporary papers or other things I might need. I don't wear gloves as a rule, so the outside pockets on my jacket are strictly for my hands. I also wear or bring my jacket in all weather. It's not even about being cold so much as it is having the extra storage space. Sometimes I'll wear a shirt with a breast pocket and forego the jacket, but that means I can't bring any pens with me. I don't want my pens right next to my body, in case they leak. |
I don't go anywhere without my cell phone, driver's license, money/cash card, keys. The essentials. There are other things in my bag, but they are not necessary. I know what is necessary by what I bring when I go to a bar, what can fit in my jeans pockets.
|
I don't carry anything on me all day every day except clothes and underwear :P
Ok seriously, I have a small handbag where I carry wallet, keys, cellphone, lipbalm, and a pen. |
Wallet, lip balm and cell phone. Keys if I'm driving which I throw under the sit when parked. Key to my home in the wallet if not driving.
|
Keys.
They're on me no matter where I go or what I do. From home to office to lab, they're the only way in. Keys are crucial. Most of the time I don't have my wallet on me. I try to leave my cell phone in my office throughout the day - nothing worse than being in the middle of setting up an experiment and hearing your phone ring. |
Holy cow there is a forum devoted to what you carry in your pocket???
|
I have a purse that goes with me almost everywhere so in that I currently have
house keys car keys study keys (seperate from the house so seperate keys) deoderant wallet antibacterial gel antibacterial wipes compact (foundation powder) lipstick lipgloss bandaids blister cover mobile phone pen pad bottle opener comb hair lackeys and a clip chewing gum lolly pop Epipen (severely allergic to bees) USB drive (only a little one that I can save a few word documents on) I carry alot of stuff don't I? |
I keep my wallet in the back, keys on my right belt loop. Phone in the front.
Work apron, bathroom kit (toothpaste, toothbrush, deoderant, mouth wash and lint brush). Water bottle, mp3 player, ear buds, and a Nintendo DS. In my messenger bag. |
I don't leave the house without my car/house keys, cell phone and wallet.
|
Blackberry
Wallet 2nd Wallet (don't ask) Keys Zebra brand Pen And if I have my messenger bag: Anthony Bourdain - The Nasty Bits Anthony Bourdain - Kitchen Confidential The Joy of Cooking Crossword puzzle book Apron Full set of Chef knives A Yo-yo A full set of Sharpies (all colors) At least three extra pens Two pencils |
Quote:
|
Fuck. I want to ask about the 2nd Wallet.
Depending on if I'm wearing my jacket (let's assume I am): -Wallet (Back right pocket) -Orange Lanyard and several keys (Front right jacket pocket) -iPhone (Left jacket pocket) -Chapstick (inside coat pocket) And money, papers, pencil, etc. |
At the most minimalist part of my day (going to the gym), I carry only my ID/license, gym access card, cell phone, and keys. If I'm going somewhere else and I take my purse, then I take all that + my requisite make-up (a certain shade of lipstick and eyeliner) + my bigger wallet, which has all my cards/money in it. And that's about it.
|
I want to see a pic of World's King's yo-yo collection.
|
c'mon WK..whats with the 2nd wallet???
tully..lip balm? you carry the same stuff as tippler! |
I'm on call 24/7, so my cell (iPhone 3G) is never far from my person.
Workdays: Backpack w/laptop, charger, 8gb flash, 2gb flash, headphones. Purse w/wallet that has credit cards, checkbooks for each of my two accounts, and lotion. Keys in front right pocket and cash in back right pocket. Non-workdays: My purse with my ID, keys and cash. If I'm traveling, I usually just take my wallet and stick it in my back pocket or my backpack if I'm carrying it, which I usually am. |

That looks more like a note pad, hm?
I just carry my wallet and phone, sometimes a pen. Only have a few keys and handful of cards, so if i'm using them I'll keep them seperate in my pocket, or if not then I stuff them in my wallet. |
1. Blackberry
2. Burt's Bee's Lip Shimmers Lip Balm 3. Dentek floss piks (oral hygeine is a priority) 4. Sugarfree gum (usually cinnamon) See above. 5. Paper journal (never know when ideas/thoughts/obsessions will strike) 6. Trojans lubricated (being prepared) 7. Trojans Magnums (being optimistic) |
okay, let's see, all day, every day....
back right pocket: my wallet back right pocket: my cell phone hanging off a the first belt loop on my pants: my keys i try to keep a pen with me, and most of the time i have smokes, but they are not on me all the time. |

Working: pen, alcohol wipes, tape, clamp, carpujet, shears, wallet, cash.
Day off: wallet, keys, cellphone, cash |
Seeing all by Hyancinthe's stash and then how little everyone else carries, I wonder why big purses are easier to find than tiny ones.
When I had to lug two babies and their paraphernalia in a huge baby bag around, I ditched the large purse entirely. That thing would have combs, make-up, address book, shit that I barely used. Now I have a tiny shoulder bag with: billfold (hate big wallets) pen that has a tape measure on it compact lip balm floss family photo thingy gum charcoal tablets cell phone |
Am I the only one who carries a diaper bag!?!?!

wallet in back right cell in back left. |
Dear TFP Members,
Stop carrying things in your back pockets before you end up with a permanent back injury like me. Sincerely, MSD Work keys in front right, iPod in front left, wallet in left inside of coat, cell phone and pen/usb drive/spy camera in breast pocket of coat. Sometimes the iPod goes in the inside right coat pocket, and sometimes the phone goes in the left pants pocket. I'm not sure why, but for the past week or so I've had an old 25 amp screw-in fuse from the days before circuit breakers in my coat pocket. |
right front pocket: handkerchief
left front pocket: ipod (when listening to it, otherwise that goes into the bag as well) messenger bag: camera pen moleskine notebook cellphone keys book of the moment case for my glasses bicycle lights medicine for upset stomach agenda wallet |
back right pocket: wallet
front right pocket: Swiss army knife, maybe money left front pocket: car key, house key In my head: self doubt and worry. Never leave home without them |

i try not to carry too much around since im the type that gets paranoid about get mugged. even tho the area around here is somewhat safe despite its looks (sacramento). it also depends on where im going like to school or church or if im just hanging out with friends.
but i usually bring the essentials of my cell phone or keys. if im just going next door or to my badminton class at school, i leave my wallet at home. i also carry an ipod around when im walking to school. but yeah, i had my stuff stolen from me before and now i am a bit more possessive about my things. |

Front left: BlackBerry (Most of the time I just carry it instead.)
Front right: Keys Back right: Wallet Simple. |
Way too much, obviously.
In my pockets... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3583/...4a758920_o.jpg Bike lock keys and my RoadID on the second keychain. With and/or on my bike... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3615/...9aafae0b_o.jpg Saddle bag contains extra shoe cleats (in the plastic bag), Swiss Army Mechanic, cycling multitool, drink mix packets, a wire tie and a pump adapter. In my bag... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3637/...b4a3d6b4_o.jpg Different SA knife in this photo, the Hercules lockblade. The bag's big enough and has enough compartments to leave plenty of room for other stuff when needed (groceries, change of clothes, bike locks, lunch, etc.). Again, way, way too much crap. Photos were taken with my work-issued iPhone. I'd have included my personal phone in with the rest, but it's broken in two and awaiting replacement. |

short list. Every day... Wallet. Chap stick. Car Keys. Cell Phone. and usually a stack of sudoku puzzles and a pen for any extended trips to the can. |
I find the lack of pics disturbing...
http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture001.jpg ... but some may find my choice of EDC disturbing. Oh well. |
ooh, I've got a CRKT M16. Nice knife, but I don't carry it, because it used to belong to my uncle who passed away.

Though I'm not a biker I am very impressed at the capabilites of your everyday carry system. It apparently has safety equipment, repair equipment, and room for everyday items whether it be job or classroom related. I refer to them as 'systems' because I feel what you have with you not only shows what you are prepared for and capable of handling, but also defines you to some extent. I'm a business man who travels often at night through neighborhoods and situations I'd rather not be in. So, I guess my EDC system does represent me. |
In my winter jacket currently:
Two Toques My headphones Ear buds Wallet Keys Palm Treo Zune Extra Button |

I also don't like to mess around with where I set everything down at the end of the day. With my crappy sleeping habits, I depend on knowing exactly where it is when I'm half awake the next morning so I won't forget anything. I've already been through leaving the keys to my locks at home, riding to the station, discovering they weren't there and having to ride all the way back home. I don't want to do it again. I wouldn't doubt that it defines me pretty well, for better or for worse. The bag, the helmet, the shoes and the ridiculous outfit all have me standing out from everyone else commuting to work. I think the regulars are used to it by now. :) |
Back pocket: wallet, if I'm driving or I might need to buy something.
Front pocket: keys, if I'm driving. Shirt pocket: sunglasses, if it's sunny. I don't like carrying things around. |
blackberry, mobile (just dont ask whey I have to have both, its a work thing), car keys, wallet.
