Groin Pain

What kind of doctor do I need to see for groin pains? I'm a male, and I feel a pain in the same area where I tore my groin several years ago. It feels like an aching pain going down around my right testicle, but touching the area does not increase the pain. There is no sharpness to the feeling, but it's relatively constant. Do I have to see a urologist, or can I go see a regular doctor?

If you put a ball between your knees and squeeze, does it reproduce the pain? If so, it sounds like it is still part of the same groin tear (the adductors of the thigh muscles), and it sounds like a case for a physical therapist to me.

Interesting, because I haven't had residual pain from the tear over the past 2-3 years since. This uncomfortability only began recently, so I'm confused. Since I run to and from work every day without stretching, it's quite possible that's where it's coming from. But, I feel like the discomfort is coming more from the testicle and shooting up through the groin the abdomen.

When I look up groin pain at WrongDiagnosis, they list off problems that have severe symptoms. I can easily sit here and ignore the dull discomfort, so it's nothing severe. I just want to catch anything before it gets too serious. I'm only 21, so I'm not at an age where I should be getting severe groin problems. Part of me thought it was a hernia because of the severe stress I was under. For several months, I lost all interest in love, and my sex drive was shot. Only over the past week have I regained my libido and interest in life. I thought this lingering pain could be resulting from that stress. I also get dull yet persistent chest pain from the stress. I thought it was heart related, but the cardiologist said I am fine.

My point is, I'm not sure if this is a temporary issue I can ignore or something I should have checked out. I do not have health insurance, so I hate spending too much money when I don't have to. If the pain was severe (IE: hurt when I touched, hurt when I peed / ejaculated), I would certainly rush to the doctor. But, there is none of that. Just dull, shooting discomfort.

visit urologist

well friend, My husband had this problem about a year ago. The dr. told him that it was just an inflammation and put him on antibiotics. You may want to check with your doctor to be on the safe side. & I will suggest you to visit urologist. I think only specialist can diagnose this problem well.

I was going to suggest your regular primary care physician, but barita has a point. If you have a doctor like barita's husband did, you're not getting good care. Sounds like that doctor just didn't want to deal with the hands-on nature of the problem, if you know what I mean. I think that you likely pulled a muscle, but it's also possibly an inguinal hernia. The shooting pains are neuropathic which indicates to me that it could be more than a pulled muscle. Hernias aren't caused by stress, however. Common misconception.

Any time you tear a muscle, tendon, or ligament, the damage done is pretty much "permanent". It may heal back to normal functionality, but that does not mean it is healed to *exactly* how it was before. It is possible you are straining the old injury, even though you haven't felt any pain for a good 2-3 years, since it happened.

And the pain you feel is not necessarily coming from the testicle, rather that's just where you feel it... it's a common medical phenomenon called "referred pain"- pain felt somewhere other than where it originates.

It might also be a minor case of testicular torsion, which is a pinching or twisting of the artery that supplies a testicle, resulting in poor blood circulation, which can cause (among other things) pain. That's something to have looked at right away.

Go see your PCP right away... if they can't answer it definitively, ask for a referral to a urologist to make sure it isn't something with your genitals.

42 years old with dental pain

Hi, I am 42 years old with dental pain. Part of my bottom back molar broke off and the dentist did a root canal 3 weeks ago. I never had any pain until after the root canal. I'm still taking Advil 3-4 times a day from the pain. It's not a constant pain. I try to eat on the other side of my mouth but sometimes if I chew on the root canalled tooth it's painful and if I put any pressure on the tooth it hurts. I went back to the dentist today and he said it takes up to 4 weeks for the pain to go away. Does that sound right?

No, no, that's not it. He's implying that it feels like a swift kick to the balls once you see the doctor's bill!

sounds a bit weird to me (though I'm not a dentist, I have had a couple of root canals done). Basically they dig out all the tooth, including the nerve ends and fill it in with (for want of a better word) stuff. In my case, I've never had pain that last more than about a day...get a second opinion perhaps?
