1900...1.650 billion
1950...2.555 billion

October 2012 we should reach 7 billion. The World Bank (an ultra-conservative institution) has estimated that the human population won't stabilize until about 12.4 billion. The UN estimates 14 billion.

The earth is finite. It's ability to supply food, water and other resources has a definite limit. It's ability to accept waste is finite. Unless you've got verifiable statistics you literally find yourself all alone on this one.

No, but I do know couples (including my own parents) where an unexpected pregnancy moved the courtship a little faster, and they got married a little more quickly than they were planning on. But in both cases, they had been more or less planning on marriage prior to the occurrence of the pregnancy.

I think this is one of those situations where people have the right to make their own decisions as to what's best for them; they shouldn't feel strong armed by society to do "what's right."

Us white folk are dying off, refraining from having children so other peoples kids inherit the earth is just, well stupid.

But as I said its an EXCUSE, not the real reason so many young liberal couples are not having children, and I say good for them

You really actually care if our race survives? It's just a skin pigment and fodder for really shitty stand up comic "white guys do this while black guys to this" humor. It serves no alternate purpose.

Hey, whaddya know? Adoption IS a good idea but shouldn't be the ONLY idea.

Let's not flood the market with cheap, domestically-manufactured babies.

You see their SAT scores? Pfft, they're lower quality and will never sell.

i don't think that there were 790 billion people in the 1750's, i assume you meant millions.

and I too think that the overpopulation is as much a myth as any other "sky is falling" idea.

the earth will still be here, spin and revolve around the sun. the question egotistically wondered is if humans are going to be part of that equation for much longer. Based on the empirical evidence that the earth has been here for millions of years, we're not cut out for it.

"If a tree falls in the woods..."

Philosophy: Yeah, the earth really won't be doing much if we're not here to observe it.

...

Dear Planet Earth: Stop making so many superfluous babies! You've already dispensed with natural selection. Somebody needs to regulate!

It's .790 billion, or 790 million. Look at the whole thing. I was working as 1 billion as the unit of 1 whole.

No one is saying overpopulation will make the planet explode. What it may lead to is a lot of human deaths.

Me too.

I think they need to consider that the kid could grow up to be just like one of you.

Take that as you will.
