The smell of urine
Is it supposed to smell fishy? Is something wrong with me? I don't have health insurance so I can't go get checked out.
|
Fishy??? Typically urine will smell like amonia. Why? Because urine is made predominantly from amonia. The more water you drink, the more difused the amonia is and the less it stinks.
|
yeah and its also more clear, which i always find reasuring (the amount of hydration). Drink more water, like you should be drinking 8 glasses or 2 litres a day. Remember the body is about 70% water (i think?), so you should try to consume as much as you can.
herbal tea is a good way of supplementing water if you find it too bland or tasteless. |
mine smells different at times, it has to do with things you eat and how much water you drink. it should go away if you drink more.
as long as it doesnt burn when you pee... |
Its normal for urine to smell. Sometimes, it smells more than other times, depending on your body hydration.
If you notice discoloration, or feel pain/burning, go see a doctor. (Also, if this smell thing increases over time).Otherwise, its likely to be just a normal thing. |
Also, a good way to make sure you are drinking enough water is to take your body weight and multiply that by.55. Then that number is how many ounces of water per day you should be taking. Well, give or take some depending on how active your lifestyle is.
But the gereral odor can be effected by what you are eating, as has been said. But a fishy smell is unusual. |
If you think this is at least slightly serious, I'd talk to a doctor about it. You could also google for the symptom, and see if any REPUTABLE sites list it as a warning sign for something. As always take this with a grain of salt, but it's always good to have information, even if you still have to visit a doctor.

Ditto on the consumption of water comment. Your urine should come out pretty clear, as a sign that you are drinking enough water.
|
In women, a fishy odor may be associated with a gardnarella infection, also called non-specific vaginitis. I am not aware of any pathology associated with a fishy odor in a man.
|
Yep, water is it.
Occasionally my pee smells like Lucky Charms. I don't know why, but it's only once in a while. Sleepyjack: That's a good Bill Hicks quote. Who's he? |
