Homeowners and Homebuyers

We are getting new flooring at the ole homestead.

We are definitely getting our first floor and stairs to the second floor all in hardwood. The second floor (one bedroom and "rec room") we are doing with carpet. The third floor (a fairly large bedroom) is where we are not sure what to do.

We only plan on staying for another year or two in this house so we want to do these upgrades for re-sale value once the market picks up again.

Anyways, we wanted to do the third floor in hardwood, but thinking about resale, we aren't sure if many people want hardwood in their bedroom (brrrr cold floors), in a "starter house".

So what do you all think? If you were to buy a house, not something you are going to be in for the rest of your life, but for 4 or 5 years, would you be willing to pay a little extra for hardwood or would you just prefer some carpet on the third floor that is one large bedroom?

Thanks in advance.

I would prefer carpet in the bedrooms. I think that in a family room, or something like that hardwoods would be ok, but my own personal preference is to have carpet in the bedrooms. Hope that helps.

I actually enjoy hardwood floors. It gives the new homeowners options to for area rugs and other accessories.

I much prefer hardwood over carpet. Much easier to clean.. looks classier.. less allergens etc.

If people are worried about cold floors in the morning buy them a pair of slippers or a rug.

I would prefer hardwood...thats one thing I love about the house Dave and I got....there is not one carpeted room in the entire thing lol

is there really that much price difference in new hardwood floors vs newly carpeted floors?

I prefer hardwood with rugs. It's easier to keep clean.

Hardwood. Throw rugs work well for bedrooms.

Awesome! Thanks for all the input. It looks like we will go with hardwood on the top floor. Thanks again!

ya carpet is being push out. Very dusty and more maintenance required. Maybe just a runner down the stairs and area rugs here n there, but hard servace is easier to take care of but youll get a little more echoey house.

i love hardwood floors, have them in the kitchen, bedroom, living room...that said, hardwood floors take work for upkeep...lots of murphy's oil and such, most people are not into that....but damn they look nice.

We had no choice but to remove the carpets in our new home ,and replace them with hard wood floors ,I was a bit sceptical at first but it's the best thing I've done in years ,apart from increasing the overall value of our home it ,has also taken care of allergies that both my son and I have.
