I noticed this in the sticky on this board:
"Do not suggest the use of any drugs, medications, vitamins, supplements, etc. If you do, we will edit your post and PM you to let you know not to do that again."

Are we talking even legal drugs prescribed by a doctor? I don't see the point of talking about health problems if nobody can suggest a mode of treatment, especially if it's just suggesting they ask their doctor about it.

Unless you are a doctor, you are not in a position to suggest specific drugs. You may give your own history with a drug, but suggesting that someone switch to your brand isn't acceptable.

saying, 'i have acid reflux and my doctor put me on prevacid, it did ______ for me' is just fine, but saying, 'you have acid reflux, you should take prevacid because it worked for me' is not.

there is to much misinformation floating around with drugs, we don't want to make it worse here. there are many things to keep in mind when going on drugs, doctors are the only ones qualified to weight both pros and cons of medicines because they have a complete picture of the persons medical history. even if you were a doctor, it would be inappropriate to suggest treatments with out qualifying it by advising them to discuss that method with there doctor, who knows there medical history.

What if someone has migraines for example, and I say "You might want to try birth control. Birth control has been shown to decrease the occurrence of migraines?"

Also, I understand why you would be against suggesting OTC drugs, supplements and herbal remedies. But if it's a drug that is only available by prescription, then that person would have to ask their doctor anyway.

Cyborg Ninja - the scenario you're describing would be ok because of the phrasing, but I don't want to get into the game of posting every possible question and answer. If you have a specific question, feel free to PM me or any other staff member for a judgement call if you'd like. Usually the answer is in the phrasing anyway.

Obviously you have a lot of experience with various conditions, drugs, etc., but you aren't in a position to dispense medical advice. Suggesting SPECIFIC prescription medication would fall into that catagory.
