So, anyone else run?
Training for my first marathon in September - anyone else here run?
Been running since Jan '02, done a couple of half marathons (including one in May just under 100 mins), just wondering if I was the only lunatic covering 30km+ a week... |
well i ran cross country in highschool... and have been trying to do more running... but havnt found a partner to run with so its been sporadic at best...
|
I bike a lot...but that doesn't really count.
Well, I should say I TRY to bike a lot. |
i used to run. i wanted to do a marathon, but lost all motivation. now, the only time i run is when it's away from a problem. boooong!
|
I started 3 years ago, mostly short distance interval sprinting. recently I have begun the foray into longer distances.
I run 6-8 miles every other day I run about an 8.5min mile for the 10k. (about 53 min) |
used to run
can't do it anymore, it hurts my joints & back too much. maybe some on the treadmill at the most before a workout. that's alright, I bike, swim & play other sports. |
Yep, i run. I try to get a few 5km runs done a week. Ive never attempted a marathon, although i once competed in a bookathon in school.
|
yeah, i started running in high school for fun and after i graduated i kept the habit going, but i'm lost on how to train for a marathon. one would assume you just run longer, but i was wondering about what type of diet you should keep or any other helpful tips. btw rogue that avatar is bad ass.

The idea is to build your mileage slowly. I run my short-med runs on Tue-Thu-Sat (8-14km), with my long run on Sundays (12km-36km), building on a 5 week cycle of 4 weeks increase-1 week easy.
You can find a few good programs on the net. There's a good one here - http://www.teamoregon.com/publicatio...at.html#ONLINE |
I do a bit of running competitively. Going to start training for a half marathon in august (my first). I'm hoping to run something like low 70's, maybe sub 70. Hopefully I'll be doing about 100km a week (60+ miles or so)
I've done 13mi in about 75 before on my own, so I'm hoping I can race a bit faster. |
Just saw this thread after I posted my 1/2 marathon one.
Never mind. The 1/2M I just completed had a £250 for the first runner 65 mins. It then had a series of other cash prizes (£400 to £100) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and then some age categories. But it was quite a small 1/2M in terms of numbers running (1015 people). The thought of training for a marathon is quite daunting. But then that is why it impressive. Not for being able to run 26.2 miles, but for being dedicated enough to put in the training needed to run 26.2 miles. |
Yeah, I do a bit. Training for a marathon in 2 weeks time. I'm in the taper now. I was up to 110k a week until now.

I jog at the local high school track. I try to go about 5-7 pm. Man some nice looking females go jogging.
|
I love running, especially outside. Running is like my psychologist, I mean I can strengthen my legs, think about things and relieve stress all at the same time. I'd rather be outside running than at home on the couch curled up to my PlayStation 2. Most people don't realize how important ur legs are, I mean they are ur last means of transportation so keep em in shape.
