Anyone tried Leptopril?
Ok so two months of exercising and "eating right" got me no where...not one pound lost (even though people keep telling me I look like I've lost weight...but the scale and my clothes dont prove it...its just cause the boobs are smaller I think lol)
Last saturday I bought a bottle of Leptopril (the generix lab cheaper version of Leptoprin "for people that need to lose more than 5-10 pounds of "vanity" weight) Im wondering if anyone else has tried it, because where as I can tell my appetite is severely cut down, my stomach hurts CONSTANTLY. Im thinking its because its got green tea in it, and I dont handle green tea well, but its not affecting me the same way as if I actually drink it. So, has anyone used it? Any pros or cons anyone would like to tell me about? Their message board doesnt exist and Im wondering if its because its actually crap and they didnt want the world hearing about it from actual users lol

It's sold as a dietary suplement, which means that it has not been tested by the FDA as actually working.
Anecdotal evidence available online shows that it works for some people, but that's most likely down to the motivational fact of making sure that you stick to your diet and exercise regime because you've spent the money on the tabets. The number of doses sold would indicate that if it were actively DANGEROUS someone would have reported it by now, but probably it is no more certain to work than pyramid schemes. Anyone wanting information on how pyramid schemes work can find out full details by sending me £15 - PM me for info... ![]() Sorry Shanni, you know I love you, but this is a scam and is no more likely to work than turning thrice to the west and spitting into the North wind. ![]()

yes I know you love me lol I was hoping it would work like Stacker did, I lost 60 pounds with that years ago (back when it had ephedra in it)
we'll see, I've only been taking it for 3 days. I do notice that anything I eat doesnt stay in me long....but green tea does that to me too

The thing about Ephedra is that it was a tested pharmaceutical compound.
Only stuff that raises the metabolic rate will work - speed, coke, and meth are good, but have their downsides, obviously. One thing that people forget is that all the energy that your body epxends helps you get thin. A recent study showed that keeping your house 2 degrees (Celcius) {about 5 deg F} cooler causes you to burn as many extra callories in one day as going to a 15 minute walk. Repeated moderate exercise does more to get your BMR up than this sort of medication. Caffeine also helps you to burn callories - it can raise the BMR (and consequently callorific use) by up to 15%.

If you've been ingesting less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. Unless of course you can ignore physics. I would say stay away from the non-FDA approved stuff, start counting calories, and get someone knowledgable to show you what exercises you should be doing.

Leptopril is a drug: it's called caffeine.
If your stomach hurts, it could be the caffeine... I read it has 200mg, which is equal to two cups of coffee or eight cups of black tea. If you're sensitive to caffeine, it can cause stomach upset, among other nasty things. This product also contains ephedrine, of which I've heard so many things that I would never take it myself. I think this could be causing your stomach issues as well. Green tea could be too, but I don't know how much is in this product. There should be a better (and safer) way to meet your goals. Have you been to a nutritionist? I'm not convinced by your "eating right." What does that mean, exactly? There is a lot of misleading dietary information out there. Did I say "a lot"? What I meant to say was "a ridiculous amount."

You can call all the ingredients a drug if you wish, just symantics really, but they are not manmade pharmaceticals, just herbs as I've already stated. Nuff Said........

Thanks DaveMatrix....I guess I was just hoping that this would work as well as the Stackers did I have no problems at all with caffiene (I previously tried Hydroxycut and never had these stomach issues with it) I am willing to bet its the green tea. I have to be very careful with what I eat as I have hemochromatosis (Iron Overload) so a lot of the things that would be good (or bad lol) for me to eat I cant, because I cannot ingest anything thats Iron enriched or fortified. So my dietary intake something I watch carefully (doesnt mean I dont splurge occasionally with a piece of chocolate cake every few weeks lol) I eat most of my meat broiled or grilled, its usually chicken and fish, as red meat is full of iron, steamed veggies (that are not full of iron) and salads. And Im a big water drinker as well. I walk 30 minutes a day and do cardio exercises 3 times a week. I really just wanted to know if anyone else had tried this, I wasnt trying to get advice on my food intake since I do have to be very careful about what I eat. Green Tea is supposed to be good for people with hemochromatosis but it doesnt like me lol I guess maybe I need to give it more time (green tea not leptopril) because its supposed to lower the iron stores in my liver (I guess by not letting me keep anything in my system long enuff to store the iron hehehe) I give blood once a month to lower the levels, but as Ive gotten older it maybe that its not working as well as it used to. so....throwing away the leptopril and learning a 35 dollar lesson and going back on straight green tea ![]()

Another thing to keep in mind Shani is that if you add weight training in there you can get your base metabolic rate up faster- which means you burn more calories even when you're not being active! Muscle burns more calories than fat at a resting state, so the more muscle you have the more calories you're going to be burning at any given time.
As far as I've ever seen or heard about diet pills, none of them work. There is a new FDA approved weight loss drug that's going on the OTC market soon, however, and I have heard good things about it- downside is it's a bit pricey (of course.)

It seems like anything that makes your heart pump faster artificially can't be good for you. I sure agree with lifting weights to pump your metabolism. Just walking 45 minutes every day and eating the same will work.

No need to be hostile babe; if you were doing this properly you wouldn't need a thread to ask questions about why it's not working, right?

you told us WHAT you eat, but you did not tell us how much of it you eat.
Bottom line answer to your question - in general using drugs to alter your body is not a good idea. Using drugs to alter your body without consulting a doctor first is always a bad idea. People have died from doing that. Don't do it. |

oh ok...I misunderstood what you wanted
Breakfast....cup of coffee, bottle of water mid morning snack....pears or mandarin oranges, bottle of water lunch....bologna sandwich with mustard only, bottle of water mid afternoon snack...yogurt, bottle of water dinner....grilled meat of some sort, garden salad, vegatable and sweet tea to drink before bed, a glass of milk thats a pretty typical day. Sometimes for lunch I will eat a grilled chicken breast instead of a sandwich. On Sundays I eat 2 pieces of bacon/scrambled egg and a biscuit for brunch and then dont eat again until mid afternoon snack Once a week I will make spaghetti for dinner and...like I said earlier every few weeks I will make brownies or a cake and have a piece and once a month (during my period, when my body is getting rid of iron) I will grill london broil for dinner and eat about 10 bite size pieces with grilled corn on the cob I have gone over that with my dr and he's said given what I CANT eat (for example I adore oatmeal, but if I have it more than once a week it tears my stomach up because of the iron content) its not bad....he doesnt like that I dont eat breakfast....but Im really not hungry at 5 am, and I do have my mid morning snack and eat lunch at 11 and mid afternoon snack at 2 dinner at 530. I walk for 30 minutes before dinner (on my treadmill right now until the weather is such I can actually walk around the neighborhood). I use 5 pd weights for arm flabbys every day and step (cardio) mon-wed-fri

Keep up the good work Shani, God Knows I could certainly stand to drop about 20lbs, and if a certain drug or herb was helpful and not dangerous I'd sure give it a shot. These days the air you breath or the water you drink 'could' be harmful, for Gods Sake fish have prozac in their bodies, so I wouldnt worry to much about some caffeine. Know your own body, monitor your pulse and blood pressure, if you feel discomfort or palpitations from the use of any drug or herb then discontinue use. Nobody can remove themselves from the byproducts of our modern world, no matter how natural the products they ingest seem to be......its the price we all pay for our modern way of life.

I con't see how you're actually eating enough! Are you getting any kind of excercise? Just seems like your caloric intake isn't enough to do much for you. Also, breakfast is the most important meal of the day - a cliche but still true.

Breakfast
Cup of coffee bottle of water = 0 Calories mid morning snack 1 pear & 1 mandarin orange bottle of water = 200 calories lunch.... bologna sandwich with mustard only bottle of water = 267 calories mid afternoon snack... yogurt bottle of water = 80 dinner.... grilled meat of some sort, *chicken = 220 garden salad, = 30 + dressing *20-150? vegatable *broccoli = 100 sweet tea to drink = 70 before bed, a glass of milk *nonfat = 86 Total = (Barely breaking 1000 calories, but certainly under 1500) **All these values are approximate Although you are doing some things right, if this is a typical day, you are not eating a proper diet. If you are anywhere near 1000 calories a day, this is likely placing your body into starvation mode, considering most children under 10 should be eating around 1500 calories a day. The recommended daily intake of calories for most adults range from 2000 to 3000. A vast majority (over 75%) of your calories are consumed after 12:00 p.m., which may contribute to your problem of not being hungry in the morning. *Breakfast really is the best time to eat because your body has been fasting for over 8 hours in most cases. Starvation mode means that your body will try its best to keep your metabolism low to prevent unnecessary expenditures of calories. *i.e. it is working against you! I don't want to rant at you, but you really should see a nutritionist, your diet could use a major overhaul and it would even help you navigate around your iron-sensitive issues as well. I could give you some starter recommendations, but I'm not a certified professional. You need to re-evaluate everything and find more balance. *Sorry for the rant.

I know I need to eat breakfast....but in my entire life I've never been a breakfast person...this is nothing new. I wont say I dont EVER eat it....like on sundays I do lol I just cannot eat when Im not hungry
It would be easier if there were things I could eat that I love (oatmeal, broccoli, red meat, spinach, bananas etc) and "sometimes" I do and just deal with the consequences of the iron, which isnt pretty, which means I cant do it all the time else I end up dehydrated oh...lol and you will never see me drinking any milk but whole milk I talked once to a nutritionist once....I couldnt seem to convince him that he was loading me up with iron and my way to deal with idiots is to stop talking to them. Only someone with the "celtic" disease as its also called knows what hell it is to deal with sometimes. Even diabetics have meds they can take to help them....hemochromatosis sufferers dont have that luxury

About Leptopril and ephedrine:
I got the ingredients list from here: http://www.referencefatburner.com/leptoprin_sd.pdf The Leptopril web site states that it has the same ingredients as Leptoprin SD. This is from the Wikipedia entry on ephedrine: Quote:

this is whats in what I have Nutrition Facts Serving Size: 2 Capsules Servings Per Container: 47.5 Niacin 20 mg ~% Calcium (as Calcium Amino Acid Chelate) 39 mg ~% Copper (From Copper Amino Acid Chelate) 0.5 mg ~% Leptopril A Proprietary Blend Containing [Yerba Mate (Leaf) SE; Guarana (Seed) SE; Caffeine; Damiana (Leaf) SE; L-Tyrosine; Acetylsalicylic Acid 81 mg; Green Tea (Leaf) SE; Kola Nut SE; Eucommia (Bark); Schizonepeta (Spica) SE; Piper Nigrum (Fruit); Hoelen (Aerial Parts); Polygonum (Root); Turmeric (Rhizome)] Recommended Use: As a dietary supplement, take two Leptopril capsules with a full glass of water 15 minutes before each meal. Do not exceed 6 capsules per day. these two things dont look the same at all to me in looking it seems there are two kinds of leptopril, one with ephedra and one without....I have been taking the one without this is the box of the one I'm taking ![]() (Note** Im not at all arguing that this was prob a dumb decision on my part....Im just showing that Im not taking the version with ephedra)

Well, at least there's no ephedrine. But still, this is something you shouldn't be taking long term.
