What do people think of Mad Money?

I must say I find the show very entertaining. While I haven't taken any actions based on Cramer's recommendations, I feel like I learn a little morsel of information about stocks every time I watch.

So does anyone have any praise/criticism of Mad Money? Let's hear it!

I find him incredibly entertaining. I was one of the first people reading him online at Street.com, when he was writing and still running his hedge fund. He has incredible insight into the markets. I think you can learn a huge amount about investing and trading from him BUT I would not go chasing after his stock picks. He changes his mind about those on a whim and the way the average retail investor behaves, is not they type of trading Jim envisions in his head when recommending them.
I actually think he does himself a disservice with the rapid fire stock evals. He's too smart to be throwing out 15 second opinions about anything and everything. There needs to be more insight than that.

There is a method to his madness. Companies that might have been good to invest in 6 months ago, might not be so good right now. And the markets do go in cycles.

If you read his book, the tips in there that aren't company specific are really good.

Yeah, I've asked for his book on my Christmas list, interested to see what he says.

I used to watch the show (back when I had cable) for purely entertainment purposes. The guy is a freakshow. From what I've heard, his investments are good if you already have an investment portfolio and want to add a little extra; if you are starting from scratch, taking his advice and his advice ONLY isn't the best option. Like the poster said above, it goes in cycles.

You can tell the guy is smart though. When the people call in and ask questions, it can be the most oddball question out there, and he answers it completely and perfectly while mashing buttons and yelling and throwing shit.
