You can chop off the ends of cooked chicken bones (with all the delish cartilage and the big knob of marrow-y goodness) - should be safe - pretty soft and chewable. It's the middle shaft that gets sharp.
I like to gnaw on a good bone myself...

Calvin is still eating chicken bones.
Calvin is still alive. Wow. Landfills are still being loaded with waste food. Greenhouse gases are still being emitted from these sites. And the planet is still dyeing while we feed our pet Chiwawas with gourmet Pedigree Chum in the back of our Range Rovers. Anyone know how you spell Chiwawa?? |

I think for the most part its fine to give your dog any kind of bone. However, I think there are a few dogs out there, that personality wise eat their food too quick and don't chew enough. I think those are the main cases of dogs getting hurt from bones, because of some physical abnormality or they eat too fast. But a standard, average dog will have no problems eating bones. The rest is just statistical, of course some dogs will choke. Humans choke too all the time, but you don't see us feeding our kids a human equivalent to dog food. We like to enjoy life and eat tasty things, why can't our dogs get the same benefit? Dogs have a quality of life too, its not all just about what is the absolute healthiest thing for them.
