weird urination issue
I've had this problem off and on for awhile but it seems to be a little more prevalent now. It happens almost only at night. I'm 22yrs old and in reasonably good healthy (could stand to lose 10-15 lbs).
When get ready for bed I'll brush my teeth and go to the bathroom, etc. When I go to pee, I'm able to pee but afterwards I still feel like I need to go even though I can't if I try. This feeling continues to build until I actually can go again (maybe 10 to 20 minutes later) but I dont' go very much and the cycle repeats itself until I go to sleep. Sometimes it is a really strong feeling, other times its barely noticeable or I don't have it at all. Could it be stress, pyschological? If it was something physical I don't see why it would happen soley at night? Anyone else experienced this? |
How much do you drink right before bed? If you avoid drinking for a couple of hours before bed, does that lessen or remove the sensation?
|
I'll give that a try. I've been trying really hard over the past several weeks to get in my 8+ glasses of water a day. I typically have to squeeze in one or two extra ones after supper. It'd be funny if it was something as simple as this :)

Sounds like you could get a prostate check.

It also could be a kidney stone...but you'd probably have other discomfort involved. Seeing a doctor is probably the best thing to do.

If you were a woman, I'd say it might be a UTI, but I think they affect men very differently (not sure). Talk to your doctor, if the not drinking before bed doesn't work.

I have experienced this a handful of times in my adult life as well, and I absolutely hate the feeling...sometimes it can be painful. I'm not sure what causes it either, and I've tried to pinpoint the cause by reviewing what I could have done during the day to cause it. A couple of times, quickly drinking a large caffeinated beverage about 30 min. prior cause the problem, but sometimes it's a mystery. Unlike you, this can hit me during any time of the day.
Normally, when this problem comes up I just bear the torture for 15-20 minutes and the feeling goes away. If it happens at night, I normally fall asleep after the pain has subsided a bit. |

I suggest you see a Doctor. The Doctor could explain and discuss details with you regarding stomach cramps. Including the symptoms, effect and most especially the cure.

Oh .. and Vir.. the symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what a UTI does. Makes you feel like you gotta pee when you can't. I'd go to the doctor. :) |
I get a small infection of the prostrate occasionally, and your symptoms sound similar. If it persists, I'll go to a doctor and he'll prescribe an antibiotic, which clears it up after a day or 2.
I hear being non-circumcized can lead to these problems more often. I'm not, so there may be something to that. |
Thanks for all the advice, this is exactly what I was afraid of.
Problem is I'm in Canada for the next month so I'm not sure what my options are about seeing a doctor. I'll call my healthcare provider on Monday and see what they tell me. |
I get this all the time. Caught a urinary tract inflection off a woman I was sleeping with (not the traditionally VD, just a urinary bug). And although it was cured, ever since my urethra has been extra sensitive, and I've had this I-gotta-pee-but-I-don't-gotta routine every few days. I've got no presure in the bladder, but my urethra feels prickly, as if there's urine in there, or as if urine is somehow irritating it. This has been going on for near 20 years.
And yes, if I drink more coffee or other acidic drinks or foods, it's more likely to happen. If I drink a whole lot of water, it's less likely to happen. It _is_ more likely to happen at night, but it happens during the day also. It's more or less a minor issue in my life. If I'm really engaged with what's going on around me -- even with a good TV show -- I don't even notice. |
You're drinking eight glasses a day... In addition to other fluids? I think I see part of the problem here.
