Tell your shirt's story
Describe the shirt you are wearing, when and where you got it, what was happening in your life when you got it, and how you feel about it, if you have any particular feelings about it.
I have to admit I got this idea because I'm wearing a rather special shirt today. :D It's gleaming white cotton, with white floss embroidery all over the front, long sleeves, and a mandarin collar. It's very loose and a little stiff, as it's the first time I've worn it. It fits me, but it's not fitted--it hides my figure pretty well, which isn't surprising when you consider I got it in Egypt. I bought it in the Valley of the Kings, after viewing the tombs, including King Tut's! I had lingered a bit, and apparently most everyone else was already back on the bus and waiting--not just for me, but still. The seller's little ramshackle stalls, built out of rough bricks, canvas, and other more "natural" materials were in the bus parking area. The Tombs are at the far end, with a checkpoint of sorts in the middle. I had returned past the checkpoint, but seeing that I was nearly the last person to return, had begun to jog back, bypassing the merchants, their pleas to sell me something, anything falling on nearly deaf ears. However, one enterprising merchant grabbed up an armful of things and started jogging alongside me, haggling. He held up one shirt and said, "$10 American". I looked at him like he was crazy, and he certainly was! $10 American was about 70 Egyptian pounds, and I could buy a lot with that. He started to laugh, knowing I was on to him, and started going down in price. Eventually, just before I got on the bus I bought the shirt for $3 American, which was still a tremendous markup (to give you an idea, many others on the trip bought 3-5 of the same shirts in the Tourist section of the Khan el-Khalili--mark-up heaven--for $5). I didn't even look at the shirt, he just tossed it at me as I handed over the money--we were both jogging during the entire process. I guess he earned a bit more cash, eh. :) Because of outrageous time constraints, I did not get to return to the bazaars, and I didn't get any more shirts. This is the only one I brought back. I'm afraid of what will happen to it when I have to wash it, LOL! But right now, today, it looks lovely and pristine (knock on wood), and fantastic with my blue jeans. Who else? |
I am wearing a simple teal blue v-neck thin and soft cotton 3/4 sleeve shirt that I bought at Gap. It was over a year ago, and I was looking to try to get some casual stuff that looked "cooler", since I'm pretty much ridiculously unstylish by NYC standards. So I went to Gap for some advice. Yep. Gap. To improve my style, no, really, I'm not kidding.
It probably doesn't seem that way to anyone outside of NYC... but here, the Gap is not exactly Fashion Week material. But I'm so pathetic on this stuff, that it seemed updated to me. I also bought a bright honeydew orange tank to wear under it for that layered "I don't care about matching colors" look. In fact, I wanted to look nice for the first NYC meetup I went to, before I was even on TFP - the one at Halx's apartment - so I wore that combo with jeans that fit. It seems to have worked, Supple Cow loved the color and has become a close friend! Not to mention my other new friends from that night. So yeah... not as good as Egypt, I'm afraid! :p |

I am wearing nothing special today... :( except i need to be ironed desperately... |
Whoops. I meant cantelope. Sheesh. And you can't be. I am! :*
Thanks for the correction - and don't worry about it. I need to be ironed most days, and I can't remember the last time I bothered! |
I'm wearing a well-worn plain white longsleeve.
It's about 8 years old--I bought it when I was 15 for 15 dollars. I had a friend who didn't understand why I would pay $15 for a white longsleeve from the Gap. And I explained that my $15 shirt at the Gap goes a lot further than, say, a $10 from Wal-Mart. Sure, you're saving money in the short-term, but not in the long-term--as evidenced by my 9-year-old shirt. It's showing its age a bit--but it's still totally wearable underneath anything, by itself, or with a t-shirt over it--and I keep wearing it! |
Great thread!
I'm wearing a white T-shirt from "Go Fish Co. Ltd". On the front there are three trout facing front like the Shirelles, with the words "LOVE EM", and on the back, three trout tails with the words "LEAVE EM". The shirt promotes catch-and release fly fishing. There are red paint stains on the bottom front of the shirt. I got this shirt for Christmas from my mom. I wore it some, although it wasn't a favorite. Then one day I helped lurkette paint our kitchen, and got "fry sauce orange" paint on it. Since then it's been one of my "comfy" shirts--I wear it to the gym, I wear it (as I am today) with pyjama pants when I sit down to work before getting cleaned up for the day. |
Jess, I love that shirt! You always look great in it. :icare:
I'm wearing a hot pink t-shirt that my SIL gave me as a birthday gift last October. It came in a package in mail just before Halloween with the rest of my birthday gifts from that section of my family - my eldest brother and his wife (and by proxy, my sweet little nephew) are the only people in my immediate family who ever mail me birthday presents since I left for college five years ago. Once, my second brother threw a small gift in the box as well, but that was the birthday before last. Everybody else just waits until I come home for Christmas and I remark on something I like as we are shopping for everybody else's gifts together, saying, "Oh! Get it, I'll get it for you. I didn't get you anything for your birthday anyway." Getting the birthday care pack from my big brother and his wife always makes me cry as if on cue. It's one of the only times that that happens and I just let it happen. My SIL always sends me funny socks and t-shirts; my brother, an obscure jazz CD or two he finds at the record shop. The last thing in there is always a fun Halloween food product because the box always arrives a couple of weeks late for my early October birthday. The one that came with this shirt was a box of bat brownies (brownie mix with a bat-shaped cookie cutter). The shirt itself was one that I hadn't seen before and was of a level of sass that I suppose could be attributed to me, but it's not one that I would ever choose on my own. First, hot pink? That's a dangerous color for a lady who can easily look like she's 12. Then there's the print on the front - it says: I'M NOT PLAYING HARD TO GET I AM HARD TO GET The text is actually in sparkly blue instead of black for "playing" and "am" and there is a sparkly light pink cat looking coy next to the words, with eyes and a collar in the same shade of blue as the two words. I'm sure all the tween girls I know would stab me in the eye with their lip gloss brushes for this shirt. I hate it and I love it. I wear it ironically, but I then I don't. It fits my body better than any other shirt I own, and my very dear SIL picked it out and gave it to me. Just a few months ago, I saw it for sale for the first time. In Guatemala this January, I saw it hanging next to two embarrassingly gaudy t-shirts in an awful sports bar and restaurant where my companions and I had stopped to have dinner after wandering for an hour looking for a cheap place to eat. I actually forgot my company and laughed out loud for a second when I saw it, wondering what it was sold next to wherever my SIL found it. Still, I never hesitate to put it on. |

I am wearing a light blue t-shirt that I got on sale for $3 at a boxing day sale (the day after christmas). Nothing special about it at all, other than my wife says it makes my blue eyes bluer... |
At first I though, "What a silly idea for a thread. Why, I'm just wearing some dull polo shirt..." and then I remembered where I got it.
I got it on a road trip to Boston a couple of years ago. On the way back, we headed up through Maine and stopped in at the L.L Bean flagship store. (It's huge and open 24hrs a day) That was a really nice trip and Boston was amazing. We saw a game at Fenway, ate lots of fresh seafood and toured through the many historical and cultural sights. We camped while on the road portion of the trip through Upstate New York, Vermont and Maine, but stayed in a swanky boutique hotel while in Boston. Truly the best of both worlds. |
I'm wearing a fitted Wonder Woman t-shirt, red with a yellow WW symbol. There's no special story, it's just one of many I have and it goes well with a denim mini skirt, which is standard summer wear for me.

I'm wearing a Stevie Ray Vaughan 1990 concert T-shirt bought at Alpine Valley Music Theater the day before he died. I recently rescued it from my daughter who has a habit of swiping dad's old concert T shirts.

I am wearing one of my favorite Hawaiian shirts today. It has red, blue and green flowers on a black background. Also the flowers have a gold outline around them that really makes the flowers stand out on the black.
And it is one of the few Hawaiian shirts that I actually bought in Hawaii. Off the rack in 'Hilo Hatties' in Hilo. Freshly pressed with a pair of black slacks and a Brighton alligator belt is the epitome of 'Florida business casual'. |

However, I would like to point out that Honeydew = Green Cantelope = Orange And Lilac Orchid Plum Violet Wisteria = PURPLE There are only like 10 colors. And Honeydew and Cantelope don't qualify :D |

Oh dude, there are SO more than ten colors- ask any artist.
My shirt is a heather grey t-shirt that was my hall shirt senior year in boarding school. The front says: R2E Tonic for the temporary relief of common boredom S&M APPROVED! INDICATIONS: Take shaken, not stirred, handle with care, take with Ramen, chocolate, or popcorn MAY CAUSE: hyperactivity, increased entropy, spasms of the diaphram, excitability- especially in adolescent males. 15 female unit count And on the back it lists everyone's names and their crowning achievement of senior year... thus mine reads Sage "The towelless wonder"... but that's another story. :) |
I'm wearing a bright yellow comfy tee that I just bought last week. It's nothing special except for the fact that I went shopping with a girlfriend when I bought it and had a great time, and bright yellow is such a happy color :)
|
I am wearing a bert and earnie buddywear t shirt that I got at the local op-shop for 1.50. Its large and I got it to go to the gym in but I like it so much I wear it whenever. Its got their names on the front and a picture of bert and ernie on the back and its so cool. I got when I was on the rampage for clothes but had not much money and it was the bargain of the week for me..I love it
|
I am wearing a high-quality black tee I picked up last year on sale for six bucks at an sporting goods/sporting wear store.
It has only one point of distinction: it was made in Canada. I have never in my life before owned a Canadian-made tee shirt. I didn't think such things existed :-). |
I am wearing a grey t-shirt, on the front it has the VISA symbol, but instead it say's KARMA, "It's Everywhere You're Going To Be".
This shirt is very special to me. It's pre-owned. Forever and a day ago, when we were all young and carefree, it was passed around a circle of my girlfriends. I earned sole possesion of it 3 years ago after my girlfriend had her second baby, and deemed it to childish. But anyway, it's so special because it's the last remnant that I have of those friends, and that time. It's threadbare and worn now, and will provobley disappear like those friends and my youth...and I guess I will be naked, and alone...... |
Currently wearing an England team shirt with "Gerrard" and "4" on it, in support of England's World Cup bid. Purchased by my wife for me on E-Bay at a great price! Go England!

I am currently sporting a non-descript grey t-shirt. This, a pair of black jeans (Levi Strauss brand) and a pair steel toe boots were my entire wardrobe for maybe two years straight (a leather jacket was added in the tail end of that, when I could afford one). I seem to be having a bit of a throw-back day today, since I'm wearing a pair of black Levi's to go with my grey t-shirt.
I have no idea where I got it. It's honestly one of about six in my wardrobe. |
Solid green (kelly green) short-sleeve button shirt, Roundtree & York, purchased at Dillard's.
Whenever my wife goes into Dillard's, I wander over into the men's section to see if anything is on Clearance. This shirt only cost $4.99 since it was December and nobody was interested in short-sleeve shirts at the time. Since I have orange hair and I'm wearing light khakis with this shirt, I look like a big Irish flag. |
I'm wearing a purple Ninja Turtles t-shirt. I got it at Goodwill for 19 cents in the little boys section and it's probably the most comfortable shirt I own. Everytime I wear it, I run into somebody who wants it. I've seriously had friends offer to pay me for it. Possibly because the shirt is WRONG. It's got Raphael centered, but holding the wrong weapon! He's using the katana instead of the sai. :P

Today, I'm wearing my Black Billabong tshirt. I wore it when mandy and I went playing pool last night, slept in it, and have been wearing it for most of the day.
It was one of my first purchases when I moved to Jeffrey's Bay (surfing capital of South Africa) a few months ago. The Billabong logo's in a shocking pink, revealing my metrosexual side. :p /me goes off to take a shower. |

Dark blue with white surfboards that says Catalina Island. I got it during a cruise my wife and I went to cheer us up after some bad news.

An awful green colored shirt with orange lettering. It reads: "I'm from Milwaukee and that's not funny." Here's a pic of it:
http://www.brewcityonline.com/brewci...ductsphoto.jpg That's not me in the pic. My sister bought it for me for Christmas a couple of years ago. I think that people started saying "I'm from Milwaukee and that's not funny" around the time of Dahmer's arrest and the cryptosporidium contamination of the water supply (much of the city had diarrhea). Both happened in the same Summer. Now if I can just find myself a good George Webb's t-shirt... |
I don't know why I opened this thread. I'm terribly hungover and I couldn't be bothered to put on a shirt after my shower. I'm having a hard time with this unusual humidity (it has drizzled all week and we got 32mm last night).
But last night I wore my "Its a Riel Thing" with a picture of Louis Riel on it. It is wonderfully Canadian and reveals the historical ignorance of many canadians. It was given to me as a wedding gift from an ex-girlfriend who I hadn't talked to for about 2 years prior to the wedding. She had no reason to know I was getting married and no reason to give me a gift. I rather like it, but Mrs.Bossnass doesn't like how much I like it; unfortuatly I exclaimed about how great it was before I realized who had given it. In all fairness, I still don't know how the gift got into the stack/to the gift opening. So I wear it when I'm not going to be seen by my wife. |
Dark green, tight T with Verona on it and funnily enough, I got it in Verona, Italy on our honeymoon. Itwas a beautiful town - but then, that's where the Romeo & Juliet came to life, so of course!
|
I'm wearing a navy blue college softball t-shirt that we (the team) would wear under our sleeveless jerseys. It got shoved back in my drawer so I haven't worn it in a while. The letters are all fading, but it always brings back a memory or two when I put it on.
|
I am wearing a state games t-shirt, blue in color. I have two of these shirts. Medium blue with state games logo. (have 2 of them because I didn't win the tennis competition and found some some way to get them to throw in an extra shirt)
|
Brown t-shirt with yellow lettering that reads "Are you going to eat those tots?"
Purchased by me personally in Preston, Idaho, home of Napoleon Dynamite. |
ratbastid...I can only imagine how much that shirt rocks.
|
I'm wearing my bf's sweatshirt. It's ridiculously large and warm. I now sleep with it as well (gushy, I know, but I rationalize it as I am used to sleeping with two pillows and I now only have one, so the sweatshirt is a replacement!)
|
I'm wearing a blue t-shirt. It's actually sorta striped, with two alternating shades of blue. I like it because the colors are somewhat calming.
I bought it at least 5 years ago, before I had come to the US. I got it from a store in Beirut down the street from our house. My mom sometimes got me t-shirts from that store. Which reminds me, I need to update my wardrobe.. But I still like having things from home. |
A black island shirt with gold and grey flowers all over it. Not what they would like me to wear in the office, but when you have some time in and know where some of the skeletons are, you can pretty much wear what you want as long as it isn't board meeting day. Don't even remember where I got it. It is just one of my extensive collection of island shirts. I think it was what I was wearing the other day when I posted myself right effn now.
Wearing it of course with Levis and my Tony Lama boots! |
I went online and found some funny shirts at www.phatrags.com
I wore a blue shirt last night that said "My Pen Is Huge" and it has a picture of a big pen. I love it. It captures my sense of humour. Today I am wearing a olive drab hemp t-shirt. I got it in Winnipeg about 5 years ago. The guy said that the more you wear it and wash it, the softer and warmer it gets. He is right. I am looking for more hemp clothes, but unfortunately this place is the capital of Redneck Central Administration, and as such I will have to look pretty hard. |

Right now I'm wearing a blue and white striped long sleeve dress shirt. I bought it right after I got my current job, which is my first job after college and I had to buy some appropriate office attire. I think I bought it on sale for about $13.00. It is just about worn out and needs to be replaced.
|
I am wearing a black camisole. I recieved this shirt from my best female friend as a Christmas gift. it was a particularly useful top then, and continues to be. it is sturdy, and has seen a considerable amount of wear. it was one of the few clothing items that I brought with me as I backpacked through Europe with Turbotom last year. the wardrobe included this tank top, a pair of jeans, a trendy but comfortable never-wrinkle black skirt, matching black long-sleeved top, and a green cotton shirt. i wore this camisole almost every day and washed it every evening by hand. It makes its way into my current wardrobe every two or three days. I still wash it by hand.
|
The shirt I'm wearing now says "Half Man Half Horse". It's wonderful. It doesn't have much of a story though. I went to the mall last Thursday to rescue a friend who made the mistake of going with two women. We walked by a store that has a bunch of T-Shirts in it, so I stopped. They had a three shirts for $20 deal, so I grabbed this one, one with a pirate flag on it and it says "Music Pirate" under the flag, and one that says "Trust Me. I'm Perfect".
It was $20 well spent, I think. |
I am wearing a white button down blouse that I bought when I started my new job so I could look more professional. Nobody else working here dresses professional. They all dress pretty casual, but I have always been one of these people who love to look important. I like to walk down the street and have people say, "Hey, look at what she's wearing! She must be important. Did you see her shirt? She's a professional with a good job. Sure is!" I don't know, maybe I have serious issues that I wear on my sleeves. The pun was intended there by the way...

Green American Apparel v-neck cotton tshirt. Bought by me at the American Apparel store in Newport Beach, CA about a month ago, and worn twice since.
|
I'm wearing a plain black cotton t-shirt I picked up at Target a couple summers ago. It's probably one of my all-time favorite t-shirts just because it is so plain, black, and ordinary. It goes with everything. One of my favorite outfits is this t-shirt, these gray corduroy pants I have, motorcycle boots, and my jean jacket. It's my rock star outfit--makes me feel like a bad ass.
|
mine is a pink von dutch t0shirt that happens to be my sisters.we are currently building new cupboards in our house and all my clothes are chucked into a chest that i have no lus(pluck) to open up and look for shirts to wear.

That is all. Carry on. |
I'm wearing a plain red t-shirt that says Marines in gold letters on the front. It was given to my son by his recruiter when he was in the delayed entry program. The day my son left for MCRD, he wore it mistakingly thinking that it would be OK. The recruiter about crapped his pants and told him to get rid of anything Marine related or he (my son) would catch hell the minute he stepped off of the plane. So I traded shirts with him.
Every time I was sad and missing my son be he in MCRD, North Carolina or Iraq, I would wear it and make me feel better. He has done his time and is now out of the Corps, but I still love this shirt and I'll wear it until it is threadbare and tattered like me. |
I'm wearing one of my favorite t-shirts. It's black and has this on the front:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26..._front_300.png And this on the back: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26...t_back_200.png I bought the shirt last semester. I had this horrible teacher that even the other professors didn't like. While I was studying for the final, amonkie linked me to the web comic xkcd. I started looking around and as soon as I saw the shirt, I bought it because we had covered regular expressions in the class. The professor was so horrible that it was enough reason for me to buy that shirt and wear it in for the final just so I could be an ass. My classmates thought it was hysterical. :D |
I'm wearing a thick long sleeve black shirt with a really interesting texture, sort of like a mohair type deal, very prickly. It looks familiar but I'm not sure Wait, wait. No I'm not wearing a shirt.
|
Hmm...
Black Sabbath T.Shirt. I got it... 2 years ago from.. Bluenotes? Or HMV? Bluenotes i THINK. Its brown.. It's fading. One of the girls i used to work with had the same shirt, so i stopped wearing it often to avoid wearing it on the same day. She's the kind of girl that would have BEAT the shirt off of you. I now wear it as a back up jammie shirt. It's not a bad shirt. I still like it. The sleeves are kind of tight for my liking, and i must say i like my other Sabbath tee VERY much more, but this one is alright. |
