Wedding Attire (kind of)
 

So here's my deal:
A friend's older sister (about 4 or so years older than I am) is getting married this weekend and I have been hired by the family to help park the cars, direct guests, etc. as the wedding is being held in a very rural, mountainous location. The wedding is outdoors. I have been informed by the family that I should dress "comfortably but neatly" and that if it's hot, i could even wear *gasp* shorts. I am at a loss as to what kind of shoes to wear, especially if it's 90 degrees out. Obviously sandals are inappropriate, but anything aside from athletic shoes would look pretty goofy with shorts on, I would imagine. Any recommendations for this confused fellow?

Polo shirt and shorts. No jeans. If you can, wear a polo and a pair of nice pants. It's nice, but fairly casual, and can look sharp. I would recommend the pants unless you think you'll die without shorts on. If you go pants, wear shoes, not sneakers or sandals. If you go shorts, wear something non-flashy in the sneaker or tennis shoe area, and get some plain khaki or white shorts. For the polo, you could go white or blue the most easily, be weary of other colors that would draw too much attention to yourself.

Whatever you do, iron the polo and the pants or shorts. Looking pressed goes a long way, no matter what the clothing is.

Well, they told you shorts, right? I mean, you are parking cars.

Think about going to a hotel in South Florida or the Island...they'd be wearing shorts. Tennis, running or cross trainer shoes would be appropriate. If it is hot, I'd suggest a moisture-wicking shirt to help keep you cool and dry. After all, if you are getting in other people's car they sure won't want you dripping all over the place!!

Just use un-common sense and you'll be fine!

I work at a high-end resturant in Florida and echo the previous statements. If you wear pants you will be hot as balls. Try Dickie shorts with a Polo shirt. And silk panties to keep everyone guessing. :)

Yeah, kakhi shorts, pretty color polo shirt, tucked in, with a nice belt, and a nice white pair of tennis shoes with very, very low socks. Will look very nice and neat and perfect for your job of valet, but will also keep you cool. Go with all cotton too- artificial fabrics impede your body's ability to sweat and keep you cool. Trust me, cotton polo, cotton shorts, cotton boxers, cotton socks. You'll be fine!
