Breast cysts
first I want to preface with with two things....I didnt put this in the ladies lounge because I thought maybe some of the guys might have been thru this with their SO's and 2nd YES I have a dr's appt scheduled for tomorrow.
Now....at the end of february I found a lump in my boob, we knew we were getting ready to move and stuff so I promised Dave that I would have it checked after we were all settled. The lump has gotten a little bigger. While Im sure its prob nothing, I cant be too careful because at the beginning of Feb my sister was diagonosed with breast cancer and just had a lumpectomy so Im a "tad" concerned. Has anyone here had a fibroid cyst in their breast (or been close enuff to someone who did) to be able to tell me what it felt like? If you had one was it easy for the dr to diagnose or did it take a multitude of tests to do? If you have had one, did you notice that it grew rather quickly before you got it checked out? I have not noticed (and I've been paying attention) that the lump changes size with my menstrual cycle, its just bigger now than it was when I first felt it. I've tried reading about this online but I'd honestly like to hear from somebody thats had them because I dont really seem to notice the things they say about it. |
My wife has one. I found it for myself when we were dating, but she had known about it before. Don't know many details about it other than its just there.

Monthly exams are done for a reason - especially when a family history of breast cancer is there...
I've had several cysts... what do they feel like? Some have felt like stones, some have felt like spongey balls... some have been small, some have been a little larger... I've generally gone to the doctor right away (they strongly suggest to not wait for any reason) so I don't know if the size ever changed... the doctors I've been to, have not been able to tell by feel what it is - generally they will do a needle biopsy first, which is really no big deal... Don't miss that doctor's appointment tomorrow for any reason... and if need be, don't wait on getting a second opinion... Good luck and good thoughts with you.. |
did they do a needle biopsy then and there? or did they have you go somewhere else to have it done? I wont miss the apt (and Im now regretting not taking the opening she had today, simply cause I know Im not gonna sleep tonite lol)
I found it the day my sister told the family that her biopsy had come back cancerous, which scared the hell out of me but the lump is in a wierd place (to me anyway) and it feels really semi hard and it rolls side to side when I touch it, but it doesnt hurt and I've had no breast pain at all (some of the stuff I've read indicates fibroids cause pain). I guess my main concern (besides it being cancerous) is that Im going to be on pins and needles cause they wont actually DO anything tomorrow to figure out what it is and Im going to have tons of drs appts |
I have not had any myself, so I am not really sure what they feel like. Both my sister and my mother have. My mother used to find them every year, she would have them aspirated (the fluid gets removed) and all would be well. One doctor told her to lower her caffeine intake. She did and has not had once since. My sister, who is not as big on top as my mother, had them removed. I am not sure if she has had any since then.
I agree with Mal. Don't miss that appointment. I wish you lots of luck and will be thinking about you. :icare: Edited to add: Sorry, I must learn to type faster. I didnt see your response before I started this. |

This site, gives a pretty good site that explains what's done better than I could... http://imaginis.com/breasthealth/biopsy/core.asp Because of my family history (every single female relative on my mother's side of the family has had breast cancer) the doctor generally has not wanted to wait for the biopsy - and I was usually prepared ahead of time... (told doctor, I found a lump, I'm coming in... my previous doctors have all been good about making sure that there's an appointment available and not making me wait) Have yourself a nice dinner tonite, enjoy Dave waiting on your hand and foot and relax as much as possible... Don't worry until you have something to worry about... and even then... whatever it is - you're being proactive about it... |
Yeah, I've had a couple of small lumps, and as soon as I cut back on the caffiene, they went away, never to return ('cause I've permanently cut back on the soda). No biggie at all. Just get it checked out, which of course you're already doing.
Like Mal says, rest in the fact that you're doing everything you can already. }}}}hugs{{{{ |
first thing I did was cut back on the caffiene....its just getting bigger lol
|
I had a doctor, he was an older white haired fellow, so it might have been wives tales rather than actual medical fact... that certain ethnic groups (he said scandanavians and those of celtic descent) were more prone to cysts than other groups... (is ethnic even the right word?)

Good Luck today...

Good Luck Shani. I hope the appointment goes well.

Good luck, darlin'! We do, of course, expect posting about how it went as soon as you have a chance...

|
Im off to the doctor...woohooo I will report back when I can!!! :icare: to everybody

She seems to feel is a fluid filled "nodule" and its nothing to worry about. Shes sending me to a breast specialist to get a mammogram and make sure and if it is they will aspirate it.
We also talked about the breast reduction I want and she seems to think Im a good candidate for it so I'll be talking to them about that too!! I feel a little better now that she thinks the same thing I do (she doesnt seem to feel its a fibroid at all) |
I had a cyst removed when I was 15, and my doctor didn't know what it was until it was removed. I don't remember if he did a needle biopsy or not, but I did have a mammogram and they still couldn't tell what it was exactly. It ended up being a piece of cartilage growing on one of my ribs...it's funny the things the body does that can scare the heck out of us. Good luck with the mammogram and keep us updated!
