Wrong Digital thermostat

I put a digital thermostat on my house to control my AC and Heater and did not know that I had a heat pump and the Thermostat I installed was not compatable with heat pumps. But it ran my AC for months but when it came time to run my heater it no longer worked, so I finnally bought the correct thermostat and it still does not work, is there something I should be looking for like a fuse I could hve blown or should I just call a pro?

How handy are you? How much do you know about HVAC in general and heat pumps in particular?

If you're like me (like, it was a surprise to you that heat pumps take a different kind of thermostat), then you should probably call a pro. That's what I would do.

Fortunately, I was lucky enough to notice that some thermostats were labeled "For Heat Pumps" BEFORE I bought one and installed it...

Well I'm pretty handy when provided the right info, but when I'm just exploring for myself I'm pretty much a dufuss... the first thermostat had settings for heat pumps so I figured I was cool either way, wether I had one or not. by the way if the thermostat does not have a heat pump setting the wiring would not go to start off with, but in small print with astricks in the instructions it says does not work with heat pumps even though it had heat pump settings, tip: never buy from Hunter unless its a Fan!

Make sure your thermostat is compatible with the heatpump.

Make sure you wire it correctly.

Be careful not to short the wires. You can blow a fuse on the equipment which can be very hard to find.

When you say it does not work, do you mean it doesn't do ANYTHING, or that it does something, but not the right thing?

Do you have this repaired yet? If not I might be able to help you but I need some more information.
