Guitar Amp

I am getting fairly good at playing my guitar after a year and a half of playing. But I still am not all that great at setting my amp up. Anyone have any practices or know any good sites that will teach me to use my amp well. I still only use the basic 10 watt amp I first started with. I know its not the greatest but don't have the cash for a new one. Would love any help anyone can give me.

Hey Miekle, I don't know which amp you are using but here are a few things you could try. You might want to look into a multi-effects pedal, there are some good ones for under a $100. I use a DigiTech, Zoom are good also.

Cut and paste this link if you want to check out some multi-effects pedals. I have bought allot from musiciansfriend, they have good prices on equipment.

I know it is hard to find the right sound on your amp while you are playing,{we only have two hands for a job that needs three :)}. Ask a friend to turn the knobs while you are playing, write down the combinations that you like for future reference.

Most amps have three knobs for tone; treble, middle-contour, bass, that go from 1 to 10 like the volume does, and a Gain and volume knob. More gain = more crunch

Clean sound, treble on 6, middle on 4, bass on 4, gain on 5.

Blues sound, treble-9, middle-6, bass-8, gain-8.

Rock, treble-9, middle-5, bass-8, gain-10.

Metal/Thrash,10-10-10-10.

Hope this helps you out!

Thanks alot it helps out tons. Already have a zoom 505II and a gcb-95 for birthday and christmass. They are loads of fun to play with just wish I could remember to unplug them so the battery doesn't wear down. :) Thanks again.

You're welcome, I usually keep my amp settings on Clean when I run my effects pedals through it, you can always add more bass/treble as needed.

Here is a link with a ton of settings for your zoom 505

Riff on!
