How to Wash a VANS shoe (cloth..)

Okay, I have this red VANS shoe that is made of cloth (the top part that gets dirty is cloth). But this isn't the CONVERSE kind of cloth, it's like, a thicker cloth that can absorb water fairly well and has some texture to it. It has some flurry texture, but very very very little.

So I'm a bit sceptical about scrubbing it, because I fear it may spoil the shoe (i.e. the cloth starts to spoil and it fluffs up into a white, broken texture kinda thing, if you know what I'm talking about).

What would be the best way to get the black stains off my shoe? It's really starting to look 1 yr old .. and it's hardly a month. :(

Back in the day when I worn Vans I washed them in the washing machine all the time - didnt hurt them a bit. Just DONT put them in the dryer - they curl up like a bananna LOL! Let them air dry.

In my family we wear keds, converse, vans, vision street wear etc...

we wash them all the time, take the shoe laces off, wash on gentle, pull them loose when done and air dry in the sun.

good luck.

I wash my converse and vans in the machine as well. But watch out for suede. In high school, I threw my pink old skools in the wash and the suede part turned a really nasty pinkish gray. For your black stains, I'd recommend pre-treating with stain removers or just detergent and rubbing gently in a bucket of warm water with your hands. Once the stains look like they're going somewhere, then you can probably throw them in the machine to take care of the rest. Good luck!

You should also spray these kinds of shoes with ScotchGuard when you buy them. This helps keep them clean and they can be "damp wiped".

At least you'll know next time.
