removing Soap Scum

Have a bath that is in really bad shape at the moment. Can anyone recommend a good solution to getting rid of soap scum etc from it. I've tried a number of off the shelf products that claim to fit the purpose but all have failed.

If possible generic options would be appreciated and preferable not brand names unless they are available in the UK

Scrubbing bubbles.

I know, it's old & routine, but it works. Start with everything dry, shoot it on & wait 10 minutes, damp-sponge off & then rinse. Don't let it dry before you sponge it off. For bad cases you'll likely have to repeat the process (from dry).

We've tried at least 20 OTC & commercial products on rental properties. Nothing else has worked as well.

If you have lime or rust buildup you'll probably need to follow-up with other products.

CLR is good.

As is something called Sugar Soap. I don't know what it is, apart from being an "old style" cleaning agent, but you can still often find it in the local supermarket.

I've tried everything, including sugar soap and enjo gloves, but nothing works like bribing my missus to take a shower with me... the soap scum becomes secondary!!!

I love TFP.. anytime I need to do something someone's already mentioned it here.

I saw both CLR and sugar soap.. and ended up going with the CLR. It worked a treat... except I inhaled too many fumes hehe. Otherwise.. it worked.. I was shocked at how well it cleared out VERY bad soap scum. If anybody else searches and finds this thread (as I did, even though it was on the front page of How-To).. I suggest CLR.

I ended up buying something else, a foaming kind.. but after reading the 8 million warnings (including calling a poison control center if it even touches your skin), I decided to go with the CLR first.
