How to remove rust from stucco
Our little apartment building got a facelift earlier this year. You know that deal where they attach sheets of styrofoam, then throw on mud, then something else, and voila.
I feel really bad, after I threw my window AC units in, (they must've sat with some water in them over the winter and rusted inside). Now there's this really ugly rust stain running down about a foot or two, especailly from the back one, down the side of the building. My super says he talked to the installer, and that he knows some way to clean it. But my super works two or more jobs and is insanely busy. Does anybody know what to use to clean rust off of stucco? Thanks! |
CLR and elbow grease.
Calcium Lime and Rust remover. Available everywhere cleaning supplies are sold. -bear |
STOP! What you have IS NOT stucco. It looks like stucco, but your comments about a facelift of foam and topcoats means it is EIFS, or Exterior Insulation and Finish System. It is synthetic stucco, but is not true 3 coat portland cement based stucco. One of the more well known trade names is DryvitŪ. Download and read the instructions in this .pdf regarding stain removal from EIFS. Using the wrong product can cause a bigger problem.

Thanks to you both. I'll pick up some of the product listed in the PDF for removing rust.
