small rust spot on car

I was wondering if any one has a sure method of getting rid of a small (tiny) spot of rust of my car. I bought sand paper, fine and coarse, and still need to get the touch up paint, but have no idea what to do after that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd fix it as soon as possible because a small rust spot will become a big rust spot given time. As I recall there's a product you can use that will neutralize the rust, which you then sand, prime, and paint over. It's called Rust Off or Rust Lock or something like that. Sorry I can't remember.

One product I've used to get rid of rust is Naval Jelly. It might be a little tough on the car's paint, so be careful.

I had a rusted out old Acura for a few years, and there are a couple of ways to deal with body rust. If the rust hasn't gotten into the body, AT ALL, then you'd be best buying a can of auto spray (you can find it at Napa, Autozone, neighborhood hardware stores) that converts rust to primer, then using the touch-up and clear coat. If the rust has started to go into the body (more than about 1/16 of an inch), then it'd be a good idea to sand the side down a bit, put on some Naval Jelly, wipe clean, sand again to get rid of the debris, then apply a couple of thin layers of fiberglass filler, sanding between coats, THEN priming the surface and painting it over with the touch-up.
