How to peg pants?

So, I've had the same few pairs of pants for a long time, but I recently decided that It'd be rad if they were a little tighter and more punk rock! The process of altering pants in this way, I've learned through careful reconnaissance, is called "pegging." I'm pretty sure the general concept involves... sewing... I just don't want to ruin any of the pants I've got through trial and error, see. :/

The only "pegging" with pants that I'm aware of is what I used to do to my jeans in the 80's to make the hem tight around your ankle. Is this what you are talking about?

Sounds about right, although on other people, the pants look pretty nice and tight all the way up. That's probably it, I'm just clueless. :)

i would go to a thrift store and pick up some cheap practice pants to learn on before i attempted anything on my good pants...

I don't think that we are on the same page here. :) The "pegging" that I'm referring to is where you pull the pantleg tight around your ankle, pull the excess to the side, and roll the bottom up twice. There's no sewing involved.

Heh, ah well. I do have a pair of pants that have a big hole in the knee, so maybe I'll just try to hone my tailoring skills on that... I was hoping for step by step type instructions, but I suppose just going ahead and trying is the only way. Thanks for posting, and such.

Ahem...speaking a 1980's punk, I can assure you that pegging jeans is done precisely as the mighty fhqwhgads described.

If you want them REALLY tight around the lower leg, you need to install zippers, otherwise you can't get your feet through. Another punk rock method includes the use of safety pins (to match the one in your ear).

Please don't peg your pants. It's a bad idea for all involved.

(I pegged my pants through the late 80s. I regret it highly.)

Well, I know what youre sayin there, quadro, as it seems that nothing good came of the 80's. But I suppose this is just the natural thing to do... As my tastes have changed, so have my pants, going from pretty baggy to (hopefully) pegg'd. We'll see how it turns out.

shittttttt... I wanted to know how to do this too.

Would it work for anything above the ankle, or just the ankle?

I fuckin bet my Farah 70s polyesthers would be perfect for this.

If you are interested in pegging your pants you may have troubles with the tight rolls coming undone. You might try getting some trouser blousers, which can be attained at a local military store. Or just some rubber bands would work. Just roll the rubber bands or blousers up in the folds.

The only people I've seen pull this off, though, since the 80's and look ok are punks and members of the service in BDU. Good luck with the look.

Damn, the 80's are coming back. Saw more kids with their collars turned up today. Now if 80's metal would make a comeback that would be cool, but just the clothing, blech.

Be sure to pick up a copy of the song "American Hair Band" by Tuff.
