is this puter room set up possible?
ok replica of the holo deck doors from star trek ng they open with a motion sensor. as you walk though the room other motion sensors turn on the lights at the far end is the puter desk it takes up the whole back wall.. its set in a half cirlcle. reason for this is i hate flat edges. this way a person can rotate the chair from left to right and move back and forth that way. a coffee pot, microwave and a small fridge is built in it somewhere.
the door would be easy i would use eco blocks a concrete wall from that we use. it can be cut to custom fit and then use stucko on it to get the pattern to match the doors then various paints to match the holo deck doors.. add a wave file of the sound the door makes opening and closeing and vola that is solved. also have to build the walls to house the doors sliding. now for the motion sensors inside the puter room. can you set them at a tighter range so they work only if someone passes just infront of it instead of at a 180 arc? that is my main trouble of late finding a way to set them thus. also i want to set the inset in the wall for ascetic purposes. the surround sound will be inset also in the walls with the typical plug the wires in .. that way if i have to replace them its easy to get out..

It should be easy enough. Sliding doors would be nifty.
This summer I did a quick retro fit for my grandma's best friend who lives next door to her in a retirement community. Hooked up a couple motion sensors to handicapped automatic doors. She was new to a wheelchair at 76 years old, but had a big enough condo to stay where she wanted and retro fit. (She had a contractor redo her bathroom and kitchen). Now, as she rolls down the hallway, two doors open inwards automatically. Apparently it was too much of a hassle to press a button on the wall and too drafty to leave most of the doors open. |

well the doors will be quarter inch pannel of some type. ill will attach eco blocks to them and use a hand held router tool to get the design down.. then stucko it and add paint. the added feature of the eco block is used to make concrete houses and insulation. this will cut down on the noise level seeing how the puter room will have all walls built outta it.. i wont concrete it though just attatch them to the existing walls. the webbing in side are set up on 16 inch centers so you can attatch drywall to. the good part is you can custom cut into them easier than with wood and such so i dont have to trash a room in a sense.
im planning on makeing it seperate from the house that way when my wife gets outta college and we actually get a house build i can move it with use.. or lol just dump it for a better office. i get my home design prog loaded ill post the blue prints for it. yeah its geekish and all but damn i want a place i feel comfortable in. also i will hook up vid outside and inside with voice so i can keep up with the house and those that show up so i dont miss something or an emergency if it happens.

well i do concrete for a living why im gonna use the eco blocks we have tons of it left over after jobs that we can use.. no small part cant be used for this cuz of the stucko at the end covering it all.. i thought of doing it all one peice for the back ground then next add custom cuts to what i need.
the door tracks are a bit tricky .. if you look at the holo deck door when they open and close you will notice that a section of one door comes in and locks onto the other. i will have to fix it so when it opens it goes back on one and forward on the other then pulls back. im wondering how much it would cost or take to let a bit of smoke out when it closes along the seams or when it opens.. that would be cool actually everything is free to make.. just the door tracks and tech installation will run me a bit but i got a friend that can get it wholesale and very cheap for me instead of tossing out hundreds of dollars for radio shack junk.

I would seriously put some consideration into the concept of pressure mats to set off your triggers, rather than heat or motion sensors. It'd be much more accurate for controls of multiple systems, plus if you really dont want the lights to go on, you'd know where not to stand.

hey thanks for the links.. and the pressure pads are a better idea. also that would be a good heads up too. put one outside the front door and set it for 65 lbs or more .. haha who needs a door bell.
thing now is im debateing again of weither putting it connected to the house or seperate form it. if its seperate i would have to install a bathroom. yeah im a tad lazy for having to walk to the house. but i still dont know. man i gotta get my home design going again. ill search for it today then work on it by next week ill post the plans for it.. heh when i do should i just put it up on a link here? cuz some frown on the instant pic thing in threads on forums though im still new at it here.
