Hornet nest?

What is the best product to use for exterminating a big ol' hornet nest in the eve of my house?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

My parents house used to get these occassionally.

This was my job.

My solution -

Do this at night. Not during the daytime.
Bring in any pets and/or children
Dress in long sleeves, long pants and gloves
Get a large trash can at the ready.
Have a broom or stick nearby
Douse the nest with Raid Hornet Spray - keep spraying until the nest is saturated.
Wait a few minutes
Knock the nest into the trash can.
(Some say douse with gasoline andset on fire - that's a little too Apocalypse now for me)
The bug spray should be plenty flammable
set nest on fire

Their house used to get 3 -5 -nest per summer -- and I never managed to get stung.

It's a plan certainly. I prefer the spray with bee killer then spray the opening with expanding foam insulation route. That way they don't get the chance to come get you or escape.

Well, it is done. They stung me in the face however. After that I cut a hole into a pillow case and put my snowboarding goggles on over that. I was wearing a long sleeve shirt, sun glasses, and gloves but I did not think they would go for any open area of skin. Man was I wrong. But they are all dead now and I feel much better. Little fuckers.

Damn, sorry about that.... Becareful with the stings -- especially if you've never been stung before... Allergic reactions to them are nasty.

Gasoline drops them quick even without lighting. Personal experience. tossed on the nest and they flat dropped it was cool, didn't even have time to sting me.

Setting-Somewhere near Philly, Summer 2000

Participants- The local hero- me, and a big fucking hornets nest on the eaves of my house

The Plan-Climb up on ladder, use long stick to knock nest down, run inside and spray nest through screen window

The Result- Hornets nest came off eaves, bounces off siding, landing squarely on my chest. The hero loses his balance and falls off ladder, fracturing his ankle, his calcaneus(heel), and his shoulder, herniating a disc in his neck, and suffering massive stings while writhing in pain on the ground

Lesson- Leave the fuckers alone!!

Wait until night and then zap them with a full size CO2 extinguisher. Gather a large "contractor" trash bag around the nest and carefully pull it off into the bag. Seal the bag. Drop in trash.

to prevent them coming back I've heard that hanging a crumpled paper bag
outside will trick the wasps \ hornets etc into thinking there is allready a nest nearby and apparently they will go elsewhere.
