How do you make one? A decent one? Looking for a 40-60 lb bag and I figured it'd be cheaper to make one than buy one...

If you live in a rural area that still has grain elevators, go poke around. Back in the day (maybe it still is?) wheat was stored and carried in heavy duty canvas bags. My grandpa used to work for a wheat board and he gave me a tour and a few bags about 12 years ago. Filled with wheat, double bagged, it was a great heavy bag. It was heavier then 60lbs though, and a little more solid then most commercial ones.

Interesting. I know in a lot of ways you can substitue a lot of things for an actual heavy bag. I'll keep that in mind but I'd like to see if I could make something near the commercial canvas bags. Just for the hell of it really (the making part) but if worse comes to worse and I just say forget it....wheat bags it is!

What about one of these http://www.nizamcanvas.com/bag/duffle.htm filled with rags or sand, and covered with duct tape and then put in another. Then again you might as well buy one for all that work. My 100lb bag cost $80 so I'm sure a 40-60lb bag will be a lot cheaper.
