how to remove stuck bolt from car frame

Hey,
Over a year ago my mom got into an accident in my LX470 :(. The car had a brush guard that was bolted onto the frame. The guard was replaced, but not the mounts. The repair shop did not report any frame damage. I recently removed the guard but I am having trouble removing the mount on the side of the accident. With all my strength, I was only able to turn it about 1/4 of a turn. Now the bolt won't budge either way. Could it be that the frame did receive minute damage and is squeezing the bolt? How can I get it out? I've only used hand tools, should I use power tools to try? If so, what tool should I use?

Thanks,
Robert

get a few feet of pipe, slide it over the handle of the wrench so you can get more power by having your hands farther out...

that and try spraying it with wd40

I've already used WD40 and let it soak for awhile. Should I try to heat up the frame around the bolt with a torch? I will go try that pipe idea, but I'd have to remove my bumper to get room.

What you want to heat is the nut where it connects to the bolt. Make sure that there isn't any wiring, or other stuff running through the frame rail which might be damaged by the heat.

Since you've applied WD-40, it will smoke and stink a bit, but after cooking the connection with a propane torch for a minute or so, put a socket wrench on it and work the connection back and forth. It should become more free, and after it has cooled a few minutes, shoot it again with WD, as the threads will accept lubrication more readily, now.

The pipe is likely to assist you in breaking the bolt, but that is a last resort if all else fails. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I took off my bumper and used a pipe. While using the pipe, I added some timre WD40 and it eventually came out. It was really stuck and the pipe gave me just enought leverage.

Thanks,
Robert

Try this over a couple of days spraying the bolt about a 6 or 8 times to keep it soaked. The idea of using a pipe over your wrench to get more leverage is also good. If you strip it you'll only be able to drill it out which if you are experienced is okay. If not take it to a shop and bend over.
