Scaring away mice

Well it's the winter and all the annoying little disguisting mice are inside the house. I've layed sticky traps but the little bastards manage to go around them somehow. I saw one tonight inbetween the bed and they're really small but for some reason disguist me and I need to keep them out of the house and especially the room I live in. My room isn't too messy but there are certain messy parts. Is there a spray/smell that mice don't like and will drive them away from my room and house? I used a translator for some words so I hope everything I wrote makes sense.

No. If I did i wouldn't have made this thread. I want to get one but I already have a dog and that would complicate things.

I think the spring loaded traps work much better than the sticky ones. Load them up with a piece of cheese or some peanut butter, and your problem will be solved.

And to answer your original question, there is no repellant that will work.

Ive heard of a sound producing dohicky that you plug into the wall. Its supposed to irritate mice and any bugs, but not cats or dogs. Don't know if it works, but im just throwin out ideas.

pepperoni works good on spring loaded traps cause the ring make it hard to pull it off the hook.... one other thing mice reproduce in 9 weeks

best thing to do is to buy a bug bomb which denser than air so it will stay low and suffocate the mice. Then go about the house with a bag and gloves...

If you choose to follow the last suggestion, be extremely careful regarding standing pilots on water heaters and house heaters, if your residence is so equipped. You may get rid of more than mice.

I tried the mouse trap + cheese trip before bed yesterday and then in the morning when I checked the trap, the cheese was gone and no mice anywhere.

yea, unless the trap is VERY sensitive, it's not that effective, usually the stuff the has the glue on the bottom works better

Soften the cheese with your fingers and make sure it's really stuck down to the little metal holder. Give it another go tonight.

put peanut butter on the trap, it tends to stick better than cheese, it may take a couple of tries though.

Here is a free way to get rid of mice and rats. There is a fruit called osage oranges and they fall off the trees in the fall. Anyway, mice and rats can not stand the scent of osage oranges. Wierdly enough the smell is undetectable to humans ,so it won't stink up your house, just put them near the entry ways in your house and hide them. I lived on a farm growing up and it has worked every year since I was 5 which is 25 years ago. Look up osage oranges on the internet and try to track some down. It is worth it.

If you use snap traps please put them somewhere inaccessible to your dog. Dogs, if I am not mistaken, love peanut butter.

i have also heard of that working. i read it in an article somewhere... for those who dont know what an osage orange is, its also commonly referred to as a "hedge apple." they are the green softball size fruits that look like a brain, and can most commonly be found near farm fields - they used to plant the trees in rows "hedges" to decifer propert lines and cut down on wind...

if you live near a field, you could probably pick those up for free, and give it a try!

Whoever suggested that I use peanut butter on the mousetrap was right. Checked the mouse trap yesterday and there was a little fat disguisting mouse on and I also caught 1 using the sticky trap in my garage, it was alive though so I just left it there til it dies, woulnd't want it to bite me or something if I pick it up.

Can the oranges be bought at a regulargrocery store or is like a delicate asian fruit or something which I would have to go all the way to an asian store to buy?

ORKIN MAN! Seriously, you should consider professional help. Those little ***kers dont go away easily. Plus they can fit through a hole roughly the size of a dime. Really! Get someone who can blast them to smithereens.

I have seen the hedgeball (what Osage Orange fruit is called around here) trick tried a few times.... I believe the rodents ate them.

I've actually tried those electronic pest control thingys you plug into an electrical socket. They're not expensive, about $20 per and they'll cover somewhere around 300-400 sq.feet, so you'll need a few to cover your house. They emit a sound that is annoying as hell to the mouse, so they usually take off running......unless they're pigheaded mice that want revenge.

At that point, you lay down the mouse/rat poison - warfarin. Now THAT stuff works like an absolute charm. Only problem is that you gotta pick up the carcasses afterwards.

there is a rat poison that causes them to get dehydrated, which causes them to look for water. the thing is that they either die from the posion or drinking too much water. the good thing is that they usually leave the house before they die, unless there is a water source for them inside. the name starts with a 'D' but cant rember it.

I live in the boonies and used to get them continously.I used to use peanut butter on a spring loaded trap, which worked, but was messy.I found a trap a Home Depot called "A better mousetrap" that actually is .It resembles a potato chip bag clip and operates by means of a long coil spring that wraps around it. The peanut butter goes on a lever visible in the open position.When the trap is sprung the clip closes on the mouse and the tension in the spring tightens on the vermin every time it breathes. The best part is you don't have to touch the little bastards to throw them away, just squeeze the clip. Regular spring traps can create a bloody mess to clean & will break after 6 or so attempts. Mice will chew their own legs off to escape a glue trap.

To help out with the peanut butter approach--tie a small cotton string to the release tongue leaving about an inch hanging on the ends. Rub the peanut butter in to the string--it works every time

we have some of those noise-emitting things. i suppose it seems to work, we haven't heard any rodents lately. however, i believe rodents may eventually learn to live with the noise, rendering it useless

I saw a mouse trot across my kitchen today, and duck under the refrigerator. Going to try the peanut butter/mouse-trap, trap placement is going to be interesting, putting it places where the mice will go, and my dog can't go.

I think the best thingout there are the ultrasonic pest repellers. My cat brought in fleas that took over the house the ORKIN people told us cat fleas are impossible to remove and the we should try other avenues to rid our home because of what they would charge. We got three ultrasonic pest repellers and placed them an different areas. within 1 week we had no fleas any where in the house, this was after 4 months of them getting progressively worse. We then put one in our storage shed when I turned it on my wife standing outside saw 6-7 field mice and 1 rat run out of the building they did not stop until they were over 40 feet from the building. Then they wandered around like they were drunk for a while they were really messed up. We also noticed that we no longer have spider webs anywhere inside or outside. Which was something we had come to tolerate. IMHO they are the greatest thing out there for any pest problems. They are not very effective when it comes to keeping money grubbing in-laws away but then again nothing is.

DONT USE THE POISON!!!!!!
if a mouse eats the poison... and dies somewhere that your dog can get to it and he/she eats it he will get poisioned!!!!!

The poison thing, according to my vet the process of ingesting the poison neutralizes the effectiveness. So your pet will be ok eating a dead mouse. Plus, the amount of poison to kill a 2 or 3 oz mouse will not hurt a dog or cat. If your dog actually eats a whole packet of poison, some vitamin k will take care of it. Our dog did this once at a ski lodge we rented. That is what the vet told us to do.

I killed a mouse with chocolate...at least i guess it was chocolate, it can kill dogs yea? it appeared he was scared to death by the grimmace on his rigid corpse, but the slightly nibbled hersheys kiss nearby told me this was no accident...this was death by chocolate...thats what the bugger gets for stealin my chocolate! Just so you know I watch a lot of CSI and Law and Order, so I'm well qualified to make this conclusion...

I got the "Better Mouse Trap" and it worked like a charm with peanut butter as bait. 2 traps caught two mice a day for a few days and I haven't seen any around since. Plus disposal was really easy.

Using your classic trap baited with peanut butter placed behind a bed I found the little bugger (actually pretty fat) yesterday! Nasty mess to clean up, but he/she/it is gone. I've put out a few more traps to make sure there are not any others, but I think it was the only one!!
