Green thumbs: some indoor growing tips
I'll be moving into a new place next week and I'm looking to brighten up both my room and my cooking with some home-grown herbs. Any of you have tips for growing indoors? Specifically I'm hoping to grow cilantro, chives and basil. If I go real crazy, I might even try jalepenos and tomatoes, though I don't know how those would do indoors in wintertime. Help?
Oh, I should mention it gets quite cold 'round here come winter, I live in the mountains. That's why it's all going to be indoors. Also, how to keep the dog from trashing the garden? Or should I just keep it up high where she can't reach it? Thanks.

i don't think that's what he's referring to, mjollnir. sorry GreasyP I have black thumbs, toes, and elbows, to boot I can (and have) killed cactus's. Im' not sure if one exists, but I'd try better homes and gardens site, if I were you. good luck, lemme know how it turns out, sounds like fun. tomato plants THOSE I'm familiar with, they get pretty big unless there's some teeny ones... cherry tomatos, maybe? but they're a bit large for windowsills. seem to remember jalepeno plants being similarly large. you may just wanna stick to the cilantro and the basil. also, maybe some green onions? dunno but seem to remember they like colder climates... I could be talking out my ass, though. good luck!
better H&G does have a site, try this linky: http://www.bhg.com/bhg/category.jhtm...data/Herbs.xml Last edited by cheerios; 08-14-2003 at 07:28 PM.. |
