If you buy something at a store that offers some sort of extended warranty, get the warranty! Most times than not, you can trade in your product for something better for a few dollars more. This worked for me when i bought my ps2....near the end of my extended warranty i took my ps2 back, and not only did i get a new one, but i had an extra $100 to spend because of the price difference from now and then.

I think the extended warranty is a good idea if the item is something you intend to return. I never buy the extended warranty on a refrigerator or other major appliance as I have no intention of returning it for another model. I have purchased the extended warranty on cordless phones. I found out by accident that if the phone goes bad before the extended warranty expires the store (in my case Sears) will refund the full paid price including tax, minus the cost of the extended warranty. To put it another way, I rented the phone for over 2 years for $15 and with the refund was able to purchase a better phone for a lower cost, thus getting a cash refund. Of course I purchased the extended warranty on the replacement phone as well. I'm not sure how other retailers manage extended warranties, but if they handle them the same way Sears did I plan on including them with my purchase more often. Most important, hold on to all recepits and evidence of extended warranty otherwise you are screwed because the store won't keep a record of it for you.

Don't have a sewing machine or kit handy? Try staples for a temporary fix. In fact, I got a hole in my pants pocket three years ago...the staples are still holding it (despite having been through wash and wear many times).

scissors dull or gooey from cutting tape, etc?
take a piece of aluminum foil, fold it a couple times & then cut several long strips. your scissors will be clean & sharp again.

don't toss your used dryer sheets!
set them aside in a basket to use for quick furniture dusting. works great.
(actually there's dozens of uses for used dryer sheets, but i'm too lazy to google it atm.)

A comb makes a good holder when trying to pound finishing nails in with a hammer.

If you ever need to put a gasket on something and need it to stay a dab of grease does wonders.
I use mine as computer case fan filters........the hardly limit any air plus it doesn't suck in dust...and makes the room smell nice.

BABYWIPES take out stains!!!! It works so well, I am amazed. Stains out of clothes- I use it all the time on my son, as well as myself if something spills on me.

If you go to buy a car and they have to transfer it from another dealership, be sure to do the transfer YOURSELF. I used to do vehicle transfers and we would dog the shit out of whatever we were driving, often achieving speeds of 90+mph, braking hard, etc. We were usually in a big hurry to get back to the dealership.
