Briar Vines (How to get rid of)

Hey all,

I just moved into a new house, which by itself has a lot of projects, but as Spring approaches (in Fl at least), I'm noticing several briar vines growing in the backyard. I get the feeling I'd rather deal with them sooner than later.

I've taken care of the trees so far.. There are a few tangles (dead briar & potato vines) in the really high branches I can't get but I'm hoping they'll blow off eventually. Right now I'm bothered by the prickly vines coming out of the ground. I've been pulling them, but the underground criss-crossing vines are pretty tough. Weed killer hasn't worked too well, and I don't have a lot of money for heavy equipment. Burning is not much of an option either.

Any help?

In the past, we have used Roundup to kill stubborn Poison Ivy. We put a cut end of the vine into a container of Roundup and let it sit for a day. This killed all of the vines that were connected.

If it's a wooded plant you'll do better with something like Crossbow. Blackberries, Ivy, Morning Glory, etc. I like Grancey's method of Roudup force-feeding but if you have lots of plants to deal with then Crossbow will be much faster.

Vined plants, bah! Hate 'em.

Cut the vine and let it dry out. Force-feed the roots Roundup like Grancey suggested.
