Selling a ring on ebay.....

My friend bought a wedding ring for his gf and now they aren't getting married. Now he wants me to sell the ring on ebay and get $400-$500 for it. I don't think he'll get that much for it considering jewelery is marked way up. It's a .5 carat diamond ring with a 10 carat gold band. What would be the best way for him to sell it?

Tough one on ebay...In that price range I would think the potential buyer would want to know the rating of the diamond(color, clarity)...and 10 karat is not a very high end band to begin with...I would check with some local jewelry stores first.

tell him to save it and use the ring as trade when finds the right one. Or use the dimamod as a some other piece of jewelry.

yea, i dunno how well that would do on ebay. i agree with downtown.

I'd go with Ebay instead of a jeweler anyway... People are willing to pay way more than common sense would dictate when an auction is involved.

I still have my wedding band from my first marriage. It cost me $550.00 and I received many complements on it. When I had a place appraise it for it's true value (instead of the appraisal an insurance company would get) it came out to about $35.00 in materials. For some reason it never occured to me to try Ebay!

I agree with not using a jewler. The one that looked at my engagement ring from my ex priced it way below what he paid and what it is actually worth. I think an ad in the paper or trying ebay might just work. I would advise using pictures!!

Hell, give ebay a shot... remember people even pay for NOTHING on there hahaha!

Seriously, I know my friend does quite a lot of sales on ebay, and even he is shocked sometimes how high the prices climb for certain items - all about demand, if someone wants it they will pay.

That's probably going to be your best bet. I know several people who have used the stones from various pieces of old jewelry and had great looking pieces made.

If he keeps it for use in another band, you gotta be real careful taking it to the jewler. Very often you'll take your real diamond in, and come back with something that looks the same, but it's not. :(
