Riddles from a cereal box

That is what they are; challenging riddles from the back of a cereal box. I figured one of them out, but I figured we could try to figure out the rest in a concerting effort to measure our reasoning. Contemplate the possiblities, and give a guess to what it could be (but, for the sake of us all, no google, please).

Here goes:

1) What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?

2) You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside? What did you eat?

3) Give me food, and I will live; give me water and I will die. What am I?

4) I have holes in my top and bottom, my left and right, and in the middle. But I still hold water. What am I?

5) I'm light as a feather, yet the strongest man can't hold me for much more than a minute. What am I?

6) A long, long time ago, two cowboys where fighting to marry the daughter of the OK Corral rancher. The rancher, who liked neither of these two men to become his future son-in-law, came up with a clever plan. A horse race would determine who would be allowed his daughter's hand. Both cowboys had to travel from Kansas City to the OK Corral, and the one whose horse arrived LAST would be proclaimed the winner.

The two cowboys, realizing that this could become a very lengthy expedition, finally decided to consult the Wise Mountain Man. They explained to him the situation, upon which the Wise Mountain Man raised his cane and spoke four wise words. Relieved, the two cowboys left his cabin: They were ready for the contest! Which four wise words did the Wise Mountain Man speak?

7) In a marble hall white as milk, lined with skin as soft as silk. Within a fountain crytal-clear, a golden apple doth appear. No doors there are to this stronghold, yet thieves break in to steal the gold. What am I?

8) What belongs to you but others use it more than you do?

9) When one does not know what it is, then it's something, but when one knows what it is, then it's nothing. What am I?

Wait, did you guess/solve them all?

I thought members would just offer their answers one at a time until we solved them all eventually. Either you are exceptionally-equipped to solve every puzzle thrown your way, or these riddles may be egregiously simple.

I still have to think some over; I'll be back with my spoils later.

Daniel is good with puzzles. I learned this in a thread from the other day involving exceptionally high melting points.

Here are my responses:

1) What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?
Spoiler: magnesium sulfate

2) You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside? What did you eat?
Spoiler: A whole chicken - you can remove the skin before cooking, eat the meat, and throw away the bones.

3) Give me food. and I will live; give me water and I will die. What am I?
Spoiler: a baby. Also Lithops

4) I have holes in my top and bottom, my left and right, and in the middle. But I still hold water. What am I?
Spoiler: Frozen.

5) I'm light as a feather, yet the strongest man can't hold me for much more than a minute. What am I?
Spoiler: An ember, or a bubble

6) A long, long time ago, two cowboys where fighting to marry the duaghter of the OK Corral rancher.

Spoiler: Ride side by side

7) In a marble hall white as silk, lined with skin as soft as silk. Within a fountain crytal-clear, a golden apple doth appear. No doors there are to this stronghold, yet thieves break in to steal the gold. What am I?
Spoiler: vagina

8) What belongs to you but others use it more than you do?
Spoiler: your name

9) When ones does not know what it is, then it's something, but when one knows what it is, then it's nothing. What am I?
Spoiler: Faith

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I THINK THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR Spoiler: VAGINA GO TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

Edit: 6 and 9 are the only ones that don't have a clear answer to me on the first read, but then again, I like riddles. After checking people's spoilers, I am curious if people cook the item daniel listed for 2, and if so if I have been missing out by eating them raw. There's definitely a more common answer.

LoL. It's just a guess, silly. I like to throw in a little erotica when even slightly applicable.

I suppose I should share. Daniel's pretty close on most, here's where we differ:

Spoiler: 2 - Corn

3 - Fire

9 - A riddle hooray meta!

edit: Simulpost with CG!

double edit: I dispute the factual accuracy of 5, as I am not the strongest man in the world and just accomplished it with a stopwatch.

Damn, you're right - I mis-read the Q on 2 and didn't spot the cooking thing.

In that case Spoiler: corn as I can't think of anything else that fits.

For whatever reason, my mind is cross-wired; I answered #2 and #7 incorrectly, but if I swap my answers, they become correct. I doubt that helps any of you still guessing, though.

#3 I took too literally, but it becomes apparent after a few minutes of thought; #9 I used a word I more than often attribute to the game show, 'Jeopardy'. The rest I solved handily.

Oh, yeah. I left a grace period for those wanting to join in on the fun late, so I held off revealing the answers as of yet. I think a day or two should be enough for those interested, then it'll be iced.
