7 Day Vertigo Virus
This is the seventh day for me and I'm starting to feel better.
Last Friday(10/31) I started feeling dizzy and light-headed most of the time. When I was off of my feet and focused on something besides the way I felt, I got some relief. The following Thursday (11/6), was the first day when I felt my symptoms were clearing up. This virus has been tough because,(besides the feeling I was walking through water most of the time) no one I know has ever had it or even heard of it, the doctor I saw last tuesday couldn't find anything wrong, and those closest to me don't see anything wrong with me, I look normal. Not to mention I didn't go to work or class all this week and I've been pretty much trapped at home! Luckily, I remembered a friend of mine did have this virus about a year ago. She said her doctor knew what it was. He said it could last up to a month! But, it lasted a week for her. She also mentioned the symptoms goes away gradually(2-3days for some). So...has anyone heard of this virus or had it? What is the name of the sickness? What was your experience like? |
It's called labyrinthitis. You think 7 days sucks? I have a permanent version of this. My vertigo ranges in severity though, so it's not unlivable but it really sucks.

I've had a sole intance of vertigo in my life, and it was due to malnutrition and famine after days of bedrest.
The after-effect of it was not pleasant, as I had to peel myself off the floor. I couldn't stand it for more than a few seconds, so my empathic vibes are to those who have acquired this malady (/bad pun on my part). |
Damn Zeraph! What do you do to cope with it?

I've also learned a lot about what makes it worse and what can trigger it, so behavioral modification helps too. Its really just like any other handicap, just not obvious like losing the use of your legs. It takes some getting use to. These days that's really one of the hardest parts of it, very few people can understand the condition, having never experienced vertigo to such an extreme. Which sucks when I have to make concessions in my relationships (i.e. I can't go to concerts, drink much, use CRT monitors, etc) so potential friends often think I'm snubbing them by making excuses. |
