VHS tape question

I live in the States, and am making a PAL DVD as a sort of a Christmas greeting for my family back home in Europe. However, some of my family members don't have DVD players though, so I'd like to copy the DVD's contents onto VHS for them. I have a multiformat VCR capable of recording in PAL. I was going to hook up the video out from the computer to the video in of the VCR, hit playback on the computer and record on the VCR. This should work, right?

My question is...will I be able to use a blank VHS tape bought here in America? Are the blank VHS tapes intended for recording with a VCR somehow technically different based on whether they are sold in America or in Europe. I thought maybe the only difference is how the video is stored on the tape, but that the tape itself is identical. But I'm not sure...

This should help answer your question.

Wiki

I've never done a conversion back to PAL in a VHS format, so I hope that information is good.

As for where I looked for conversion help when I first got into doing stuff like that, I use(d) Doom9 and Video Help

VHS tapes don't care if they are PAL or NTSC. You will just have less recording time on the PAL since the picture is denser.
